Skip Lady and Sons and come to Mrs. Wilkes! You must plan on arriving about an hour before you want to eat, and the earlier, the better. You'll eat at a table with strangers who will be friends by the time you leave. There were 25 individual items on the table (27 last time I was here). Fried chicken is... More

We wanted to find a place in Savannah to eat. GPS got us to Jones street. It's a residential area but we just looked for the line to find Mrs Wilkes. Locals say there is always a line. Only open M-F, 11-2. They say if you are in line at 2 they will let you in. No credit cards and... More

The food is plentiful and served family style and it is all excellent (although the fried chicken is better at Pirate's House), but get there early. They only serve lunch Mon-Fri from 11-2. I advise getting there at 10:45, have an early lunch and then head up to Johnson Square to catch a 1:30 free walking tour. It is a... More

..... Just to tell you what you're eating! Dish after dish comes your way, and if you're not southern you might not know what they are. If not adventurous you probably won't try them because there is so much to choose from you might stick to the familiar. Save a tiny bit of room at the end for dessert. We... More

10 people at a table served family style with Southern cooking and southern iced tea. Plenty for everybody fried chicken and ham were the main courses and at least 10 side dishes. Thought they would have had better deserts and water was difficult to get but definitely a do once experience.

Eating at Mrs Wilkes is a delightful experience. You sit around a large table, often with someone you have never met. The food is served family style, I have always found good conversation to complement the excellent meal. The dining area reminds me of eating at my grandmothers on Sundays. Get there early, there is usually a line and depending... More

Our group of 5 arrived about 10 minutes before the restaurant opened. The line to get in stretched down the block and around the corner. After just over 2 hours we were finally shown to our table. Just before you are seated the food is delivered and set on your table family style, and you share your meal with others.... More

Mrs Wilkes is more than a restaurant, it's a cultural food experience!! Skip Paula's place and head to the real southern cuisine in Savannah, Mrs Wilkes on Jones St. Breakfast and lunch only and be prepared to stand in line on one of the prettiest streets in Savannah!! It's a "don't miss" stop when in Savannah!!

So much food. Tasted so good. Tummy hurts now. Why, oh why, did I eat breakfast this morning? I will be dreaming about fried chicken tonight. I will wake up with a pillow that is wet from drool.
