My Chinese friends say this is the best Chinese in the Boston area. Authentic and reasonably priced, catering primarily to students and young professionals. Service is efficient, the food is great and the price is truly a bargain. Try the cheng du spicy noodles, the dan dan noodles, and any of the fried noodle dishes.

Sadly, I relied on TripAdvisor's "# 1 Chinese in Brookline" rating and thus ordered three entrees, two soups, two rice dishes. Food was lukewarm and generally mushy, with many items lacking flavor. The two supposedly "hot" dishes barely resembled good Sechuan (they had a one-dimensional "hot" likely from red pepper) as I've eaten elsewhere in Massachusetts or New York. Essentially,... More

This place competes more or less directly with Sichuan Garden, also in Brookline. Sichuan Gourmet (this one) is at St. Mary's T stop on Beacon St, and thus serves a lot of Boston University and related clientele. Sichuan Garden is in Brookline Village, which is overall a somewhat more upscale crowd, though not by much. The winner is Sichuan Gourmet.... More

Unpretentious Chinese place in a residential area just off downtown Boston (1 mile walk from Prudential Center). Very basic decor, not busy but not empty on a Tuesday election night. Most of the diners were Chinese speaking. We ordered a variety of dishes from the extensive menu. Every dish was ample sized. Tangerine chicken, spicy Dan Dan noodles, seafood on... More

The restaurant caught my eye when I walked to Boston University. I invited two students for Dinner; one was Chinese and she said that she said that it was a restaurant she used often, which testifies of two things: first the excellent value and second that it is at least very acceptable for a native. The dishes vary from entirely... More

I came here for a birthday lunch with my girlfriend, and we were both very impressed with the food here! Authentic Szechuan cooking is difficult to find in the United States, so we will definitely be back here. We ordered the minced pork with cellophane noodles and the dried chicken with chili paste. The dried chicken was fiery and aromatic,... More

Genuine Sichuan cooking is hard to find. The Sichuan Gourmet presents a decent effort but is not consistent. Since we live nearby we eat there often. Service is brusque but efficient. Dishes are good size and the spice level varies light to moderate but never attains the level one experiences in Chengdu. It remains the best Sechuan restaurant in Brookline... More

Authentic, enormous selection, very kind and numerous host, absolutely delicious food. We loved the spicy Dan Dan noodles and scallion pancakes as appetizers and, for dinner, the chicken with broccoli was delicious, as was the veggie lo mein and spicy tofu dish. Lots of desert option too.

I had lunch today for my birthday and had a great meal. The menu was chicken with cashew nuts, Sichuan green beans boiled white rice and boneless spare ribs. My first time and I would go there again in a heartbeat.

So, quickly, this place is great. Really authentic food at a very reasonable price. I went here last winter for a meal with my boyfriend. I am the kind of Chinese food-eater that gets the un-intimidating lo mien and scallion pancakes (both of which I recommend). My boyfriend prefers to find something he's never had before because "when is he... More
