We had already booked another nearby restaurant and needed to kill some time so we went in for drinks. A glass of Sauvignon Blanc was $10 while Malbec was $11. Nice sized pour. Folks nearby were enjoying large platters of delicious-looking food. So it looks like we'll make WST a destination next time in town.

Had a wonderful evening here last night. Great atmosphere, and attentive staff. Food was excellent too. Corn fritters, artichoke and oysters (to die for) for starters followed by a bison steak ( new one to me) .... accompanied by a delicious Sonoma red wine (recommended by Gerry). Our evening was capped with an Irish Coffee ( which was delicious!). A... More

Excellent food and wine selection. Prices very reasonable. Gerry, the owner, is a very knowledgeable guy from Ireland. He has also a good selection of rare Bourbon whiskeys as well as rare wines. Good to talk wine, whisky with. Meat was excellent. So was services. We'll come back.

I'm told this was the first restaurant/bar in the square and from the get go TV screens were banned. It really is a social setting for those in the know - great high dark oak bar, excellent bar staff (Stewart, Oliver, Nathaniel all make your visit personal) and a collection of Scotch and Irish whiskeys second to none. It has... More

We go back to the Tavern again and again. The food is great and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Gerry, the owner, is a wine expert, so the selection is very good.

I hesitate to write a review, let alone a good one, lest our favorite neighborhood joint become more popular! This is our go-to place to unwind on a Friday night. We know that we will be greeted not only by a menu of creative, locally sourced food, but also by Jerry, who has created a hip space that is welcoming... More

I really wanted to love this place, but it was just ok…….the interior is great, exuding a warm, cozy, neighborhood pub feel. The calamari was disappointing as it was very greasy. The scallop dish was very good, but the sea bass was overcooked. Prices are downtown Boston - this may look like a neighborhood pub, but don’t be fooled. Our... More

We enjoyed dinner in this cozy tavern which had a nice variety of entrees at fair prices, especially for a big city. The menu was not your typical 'bar' food, but rather nice dinner fare (seafood, steak, lamb) as well as burgers. Only wish they filled the wine glasses more!

I am a regular at the WST. I would call it a gastro-pub but the proprietor would object to what he would consider a pretentious reference. There have been a number of chefs over the years but the current chef is outstanding. The menu has a variety of interesting and creative dishes - ones that you would not expect to... More

This was our neighborhood restaurant for many years. We could always be assured of reasonably priced entrees, good drinks, friendly service. Washington Square Tavern filled a niche of a moderate, casual restaurant in a corner of Brookline with a number of pricier bistros. Apparently the restaurant has changed owners and philosophy in the past several months. Prices are about 30... More
