This is one of my yearly stops when I go to Madison. The food is excellent and plentiful, I have never walked away hungry. But the indoor old world charm may be the real key. If you get a chance choose the round seating areas. For privacy you can close the drapery and you are in your own world.

The area we were seated was a round table with a nice feel. Closed off enough that you feel like you are the only ones there. So a thumbs up on the unique interior. The food was flavorful and did not disappoint. Generous portions. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Italian food. I would... More

Such a beautiful, original, historic place to enjoy good food and friends. The bartender was kind enough to give us a tour of the entire facility. The downstairs wine bar is a great room for parties and could accommodate bands. The main bar is gorgeous, with its old world decor. The front patio must be a great place to dine... More

I understand that Madison Restaurant is a busy time. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, fried ravioli, shrimp fettuccine, beef Gorgonzola, chocolate chip cannoli and almond sponge cake. The entrees came with shredded mozzarella, which looked like it came from a bag. Our server couldn't remember who had which entree (there were only two of us). We didn't even have our forks... More

Probably the most intimate place to eat in Madison. All the booths are very private and cozy (but not stuffy) and really adds ambiance to the meal. Started my meal with the Porta salad and it was great! Full of egg, garbanzo beans, cheese, etc. Enjoyed it. The meal also comes with very good bread and olive oil or butter... More

A first time visitor would like Porta Bella very much. Repeat customers may be slightly disappointed with the food. The thick slab of lasagne is gone, replaced by a runny plate of pasta and sauce. The Porto Salad still shines, even if the portion is reduced. Bring back the garlic/italian bread choice with dinners, please!

I've been here a couple of times. The atmosphere and decor are especially noteworthy. The outside seating and "hole in the wall" feel mix well with it's otherwise slightly more refined presentation. The food just above average. If you're looking for something midblowing, there are other options in Madison, but this place won't disappoint either.
