Nicks looks like a rundown bar with no visual appeal. The food however is always good which is what keeps bringing people back for a meal. I can't help but wonder why the owner doesn't put some money in to cleaning it up and upgrading the tables and booths. Nothing extreme mind you but even a coat of paint might... More

My wife and I went for dinner----she had a burger with fries and I had a chicken plate with salad.--Both were great---with a coffee--the bill was $22 with tax---very reasonable. When you look around in detail--everything is in great condition--not run down--but you have the feel of years ago---nice charm. Service could not have been better and more polite---had Danielle----ask for... More

my husband and I went to Nick's Wed. night before our show at the overture center. Our waitress, Nicole, was very attentive and answered all our questions regarding the food and the restaurant. my husband realized that he used to come here for lunch back in the 60's when he worked for Montgomery Wards - she was a very good... I have only eaten breakfast at Nick's, but do so almost every bus trip I take to downtown Madison. The owner and staff could not be friendlier, the atmosphere is congenial, and the food is very good.

8 of us were going to the Comedy Club for dinner and thought we'd try Nicks because it was a couple doors down and it has been on State St for years. Bad move! Only 2 of the 8 of us liked our food. Both people had the Rueben. I ordered the Swiss mushroom burger. It looked awesome! But, the... More

So, Nick's is a place I went a lot in my late 20's and early 30's. It was the kind of place you can get a burger and a drink for a nice price. I have not been here much of late since I don't work near State Street any more. Me and two pals were heading to a show... More

I love the vibe of this place! It's someplace I would want to go hang out and have and drinks with friends. If you want a retro / throwback feel, then this is for you! It doesn't hurt that the mashed potatoes are amazing!

I went to nicks for the first time last weekend - great sandwich, great fries, great service (the owner). I went back yesterday with two friends - great sandwich, great fries, great service (amelia). I love this place!

If inexpensive is all you care about, this place is tolerable. Lots of beers, but none on tap, mediocre fish, over-salted Greek soup, dinner rolls that are down-sized hamburger buns, and everything else is ordinary at best. The only bright spot was a charming and well-trained waitress. There are many better choices in Madison.

We arrived shortly after 5 for the three of us prior to the Lion King. I was a little concerned about the "look" of Nick's - I know it's a step back in time...but - in my opinion - there are some minor "issues" - it might be time to refurbish a bit...maybe a coat of paint on the walls... More
