We heard about Willie Mae's in Canada. If you love fried chicken, YOU MUST EAT HERE! The fried okra was fantastic too but the chicken stole the show.

We were visiting New Orleans and bought a Groupon for Willie Mae's. We even walked by the day before our visit, looked inside and checked the hours for the next day. We had to ride the street car to get there and when we arrived at about 5:15, they were closed We were soo disappointed. I plan to try again... More

My main purpose of going was to try the mac and cheese and corn muffins. When I got there, they had ran out of both! I ended up having the boneless fried chicken with mash potatoes. It was really scrumptious..I ate the entire plate. I also tried the red velvet cheesecake, it was really delicious.

Make your way out of the French Quarters and have some of Willie Mae's fried chicken. The chicken is a little on the salty side, breading is perfect for me and chicken is super tender and moist! It's about a 30 minute walk from the French Quarter or you can take the red (Canal) street car and get off at... More

I'm not going to claim to be a connoisseur of friend chicken, but this place is amazing. I don't remember how the recommendation for this place came about but I'm so glad we sought it out. We had walked from bourbon street which isn't too far, but we were ravenous and it seemed like one of the longest treks ever.... More

This was a must eat during our stay. When we arrived, parking was very sparse. They do not have a parking lot, so parking on the side streets was our option, some of the streets were a little shady. Once we got there, we were seated immediately and were greeted by a very friendly staff. We had the fried checken... More

It's probably been 2 years since we've last ate here. We ordered way too much food. Our waitress told us that sides were individual size. We could have easily shared all but the mac n cheese. The highlight of the meal & the whole point of our visit was the FABULOUS fried chicken. We've been craving the fried chicken ever... More

Went for lunch. I am not a food critic, just know the food was great and the prices fair. The real test is that my teen grandchildren loved the food. Both are very picky eaters. I went at 11am to avoid the long waits, waited about 15 minutes in line and was served about noon.

Maybe the best fried chicken in NOLA... but not the best southern fried chicken I have ever had ... by far. Good lunch but question if it is really worth the wait of the inflated price for fried chicken.

We arrived at 3:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Although there were open tables in the back, they directed us to stand in line and if there was no line, to form one. We stood for 20 min, nobody ahead of us. When we sat down the waitress said they were out of a lot of side dishes. While the chicken was... More

Neighbourhood Profile
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
