We rode the street car to this are to do some shopping and grab lunch. With shopping done we headed to Central Grocery to try the muffalata. There was no line so we walked right to the counter to order. Some seats opened up at their counter to eat so we sat & devoured the sandwich between the 4 of... More

First let me say, you must have the muffalata sandwich. Then let me say its the only thing on the menu! It is HUGH, we ordered a whole sandwich to split, but honestly I think we could have shared a half. I loved the sandwich, my husband was not a fan of the spread, but ate the entire thing! You... It looks like these folks are all confusing something with Central Grocery. The correct location is not in front of Jackson Square but 3 blocks up Decauter at 723 Decauter. Central Grocery is the only place in New Orleans that you should order Muffulettas.

Loved their Muffaletta sandwich. It was so good I had to bring back 2 jars of Muffaletta! So happy I stopped there, I would have missed out on all the packaged garden seeds from Italy! So excited to grow my of my heritage veggies!

This is the origin of the muffaletta sandwich. It is not a restaurant. It is a "grocery" store. You will stand in line outside, wind your way in through some touristy type grocery items and then come to a large counter. There is a deli type of arrangement with meats and cheeses. If you order the typical muffaletta they will... More

Delicious muffaletta sandwich! We split two between 6 people. Well worth the long wait in line. The bread is fantastic!

We always try to arrive in New Orleans at lunch time and head to Central Grocery for muffellatas and Dixie beer. This trip the muffellatas were soaked in olive oil so badly we had to soak it up with napkins. Maybe just an off day. We will definitely try again on the next trip.

Suppossed to be the best Muffulettas buy not. Staff abrupt, not friendly at all. Place to sit and eat communal and not nice. No service at "table". Sandwich not fresh.

Over rated. The sandwich is nice but dry; needs mayo or more oil/vinegar. Service so/so. So many great places to eat in the quarter, this place needs to step it up a bit.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
