The first time we ate here was in November of 2004 and had a wonderful meal (so we keep going back). For an appetizer, we had the Pan-Fried Des Allemands Catfish with Stone Ground Jalapeno Cheese Grits, Sauce Piquante, Black Bean Salsa, & Avocado Sour Cream - yum!. For an entrée, I had their special Broiled Gulf Fish with Crabmeat... More

From the moment you walk through the door you know you are in for a wonderful evening. The entry hallway opens on to several very cozy rooms with beautifully set tables. The service is prompt, but in a very unobtrusive way reminiscent of the best European restaurants I remember from 40 years ago. The staff simply takes very good care... More

Planning our trip to New Orleans, we ask a person who resided there for quite some time and still visits regularly where to dine, that was not one of the tourist hot spots. The answer Brigtsen's. We were not disappointed, from the cocktails, to the salads and on to the entrees, it was all so good.

one more visit to a favorite; with 2 friends (one of whom dines here every Friday night); so many choices that are so tempting - ended up with stuffed flounder as an entree; the prep is unique - not just a flat piece of fish with a center cut for the stuffing - rather, as the photo shows - a... I went here with a couple celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. They had tried to book the same restaurant we went to after their marriage but it was books so we came here. All six of us agreed it was lucky the other place had been booked. Nice, intimate dining room where it was easy to chat. Everyone loved what... More

I could write volumes about my first visit to Brigtsen's but you have to experience it to really understand. Mrs. Brigtsen greeted us warmly as we entered the restaurant and all 6 of us were immediately shown to our table. The rest was magic. Mignon, our server was a doll. She answered questions about the menu, made recommendations and even... More

Thankfully we have friends that dined here before. We may not have chosen Brigtsen's for our last night in town. It is located in an old house, tables are close, but such a quaint setting. Service was great, our server even picked the meal for our host when he couldn't make up his mind. Two of us had the seafood... More

Fine dining with casual feel to it. Service was amazing with great staff, not pushy and made you feel at home. Food was just amazing without the fine dining 'small' portions. Frank really has a gem here!

Brigtsen’s is “fine-dining,” but with a casual atmosphere, and an almost “familiar” service. It is difficult to explain, but while it IS fine-dining, there is nothing “stuffy” about any aspect. Almost just the opposite. It’s in an old house in the River Bend of New Orleans, out where the St. Charles streetcar makes a 90 degree turn to S. Carrollton... More

Upon recommendation from a friend that frequents New Orleans often, we made reservations and went for a late dinner. The grilled redfish was absolutely one of the best seafood dinners I have EVER had. My only complaint was the noise, very packed rooms for dining and you couldn't help from overhearing conversations from other tables. Everyone was having to talk... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
