I have to say the food we had was second to none. Perfectly cooked and the timing of the service and food was spot on. There are 2 issues I would complain about during my visit. though First, my wife walked into the restaurant before me and the 2 young ladies greeting everyone didn't even acknowledge her. I walked in... More

All food seemed excellent. My dirty martini was great but not the greatest. Service was over the top. The building is a good fit.

From the perfectly mixed Sazerac cocktail in the wood-paneled lounge to the double chocolate ganache dessert at the end of the meal, this superb French-Creole restaurant in the central business district deserves all the acclaim it has received. John Besh is one of New Orleans' best known chefs and this fine dining spot is an absolute jewel. My heavenly gnocchi... More

For years I have heard people rave about August. I even had some friends invite me to lunch here a few times. I always declined- I knew that if I was going to do August it would have to be dinner and a lunch just wouldn't cut it. I was determined to dine at August the right way- dinner with... More

My meal, the pork, was not so great, but everyone else at my table had fish and loved it. The staff was wonderful, the seating comfortable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant August is impressive when you first walk in. The flowers, then the chandeliers and the several rooms. Our servers were Zeke and Steve. They were extremely attentive and friendly. The menu was diverse. We picked the Reveillon menu. A bit pricey but it was worth every penny. We started out with the chefs complimentary Brown butter custard with cauliflower... More

Noticed this place while walking to our intended restaurant and decided to check it out. After a warm welcome followed by a couple great cocktails, we decided to cancel our other reservation and dine here. Very glad we did. Everything on the menu looked appealing, so it took a while to decide. I would recommend

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at August. I would say the setting, ambiance, service and attention is well worth the price of the food. Most of the food was delicious, the exception being the roasted tripletail, which was not remarkable. Everything else we tried was expertly prepared and delicious. I would return here again for the degustation menu.

Description
The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
