This restaurant experience was definitely a highlight during our New Orleans visit. We went at lunch on Tuesday, March 28th 2017, and it was everything that I expected. The restaurant is classy and very clean. The hostess at the front was so caring, classy and professional, and the wait staff was great. The food was awesome! To top it off,... More

This is an unusual restaurant. We understand it is just for private parties, and we were with Road Scholar. Amazing artwork all around. A nice buffet with what you'd expect including the fried chicken and fried catfish. Miss Leah, the 94 year old owner, came out to sping a few yarns - delightful!

Managed to get a table even though it looked like they had cut off their waiting list for the day. The fried chicken was great and so worth the wait, but the highlight for me was taking in the great African American art that lined the rooms and having the opportunity to meet Mrs. Leah Chase. She was absolutely lovely!

There's no end of good food in New Orleans. But Ms. Chase puts love into her food. Nearly 95 years young, her days in the kitchen keep her alive and looking good. There are no words for how this experience will change you. I can't eat at Dooky Chase's without crying. Her fried chicken, oh my! Crispy as heck outside... More

Maybe we just went on an "off" day. The Fried Chicken and Greens were great! Everything else was just a little average for New Orleans. The Gumbo was rich, but too salty before you could finish it and the service was pitiful. Except for the kid clearing the dishes..he was on point and were it not for him I wouldn't... More

AWESOME SAUCE!!! The food was so good I went back two days in a row! The buffet changes DAILY! Ms. Leah Chase was an Glorious sight of history to behold! Her food was SLAPPIN!!! A quart of her gumbo made it back to Detroit! The yellow squash with shrimp, chicken grillande, gumbo, peach cobbler, fried chicken, fried catfish, greens, jambalaya,... More

Dooky Chase is a great authentic Creole restaurant located in the Tremé district and run by a living legend, Leah Chase known as the Queen of Creole cuisine. You can learn a lot about the importance of this place in the Civil Rights Movement on their website. We have been introduced to this place by our friends who are long... More

You have to take a car to get here from the French quarter but it is worth it. It is open for lunch most days but dinner only on fridays. Fried chicken was one of the best that I have ever had.

I heard about this place on a UK radio programme about New Orleans food. It is well worth visiting. A very interesting part of town. I walked up there from the French Quarter through Treme and was fascinated, perhaps beause I had enjoyed the TV series of the same name. The hospitality is charming. The room more formal than I... Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
