We had po'boys which this place is famous for. Ordering was easy. We then took our seats and the food was brought to us. All I can say is get lots of napkins and bring your appetite. The food is excellent but messy but well worth the effort. It is very popular and busy during peak times. If you have... More

Good food. Huge portions! Reasonably priced. There is no tipping allowed. Generally long queues but moves along very quickly. The only issue is that the place is very dirty. Dirty floors and table. So not sure about food hygiene but we enjoyed the food!

Ate here with my mom while we were visiting New Orleans. My mom had fried chicken and greens. I had the ham, eggs, and grits with biscuits. The food was absolutely delicious. The biscuits were divine! We were so pleased with the food that we ate here 3 times. Good atmosphere, very reasonably priced as well. The only draw back... More

Mother's is an institution in NOLA. They are famous for their baked ham, their traditional new orleans foods. They also have the best debris (roast beef and au jous) and pea soup. The service has a structure. You ait online to get in the door. Once inside there is a short line that will take you throughthe food area and... More

Get yourself a big sandwich (probably after waiting in a long line!) or other traditional Cajun cuisine. This is almost a cafeteria - you wait in line, place your order at a cash register and pay, then sit at a table until a server picks up your receipt and brings your food.

We had 2 couple in our party and we had heard about Mother's restaurant is where to go if you want authentic Southern cuisine. Man this place did not disappoint. The food was excellent! I had the combination platter, which included crawfish etoufee, jambalaya, red beans and rice, potato salad and one side, which I got turnip greens. The jambalaya... More

The first night we tried to get in, there was a line out the door. We came back the following night and we were able to walk right in (around 5:30pm). However after we ordered and sat down the line started gaining again. The food was good. Service decent. Overall it was a good choice for a fast and easy... More

For $8.50, a cup of food should be a certain size. At Mother's, it's tiny. Our gumbo and jambalaya bowls were smaller than the kid's debris biscuit. I ate it all in about 10 spoonfuls. Even worse, the gumbo was a gray, watery, luke-warm dish with next-to-no seasoning. I thought I was eating dishwater with old seafood mixed in. We... More

I know this is well known as a great place but i was not impressed. Long wait to get in and lots of yelling and what not as you stand in line again to order. Food is cafeteria style in apperance but you do order at cashier and they bring it to you. Food quality is mediocre by my standards... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
