I took my parents and aunt to try some of the best NOLA dishes, and was not disappointed with that. Rockefeller oysters were incredible, as well as the soufflé potatoes and shrimps au gratin. My dad loved the eggs benedict and bread pudding. The service, however, was quite underwhelming. I had made a reservation over a week before, but when we got there were shoved off to the upper floor, to one small room where the other diners were not as well dressed as the folks downstairs. (Being the afternoon before New Years, plenty of people were dressed in sequins and tux downstairs. We wore regular clothes, no jeans or sneakers. My dad, who is 85, had a cardigan over his shirt.). Waiter was pretty unfriendly and apologized when he forgot the bread, the water, and gave very quick recommendations. My parents don't speak English at all, so I do hope our conversation in Spanish was not the reason for the waiter's attitude.

Dined at Galatoires tonight and times have changed. The experience was not impressive. The food was inconsistent. The sautéed reddish fish was good, but bouillabaisse was under seasoned and the asparagus came with stiff, cold, flavorless hollandaise. When we pointed it out, the waitress just handed us a couple of lemon wedges and expected us to fix it ourselves. She also had never done the table side cafe brulot service, although she tried her best. Feels like the second floor is the trainee section and there is no experienced staff. Much of the upstairs staff looked under 18. The prices are the same though at over $100 per person. The staff was nice, but not nearly the polish we expected for the prices. Yikes! Won’t be back.

We tried to book reservations here on Thanksgiving Day at the last minute, but none were available. But, we did get in the night before we left NOLA and it was well worth the wait! The food and service was superb!! I had the pan fried trout topped with Lump crab meat and it was the best I've ever had!!! Others in our group had stuffed pork chops, filet mignon, and grilled salmon topped with crab meal. Desserts were pumpkin cheesecake, another cheesecake with an oreo based crust topped with chocolate and caramel, banana bread pudding, a key lime tart and some sort of chocolate soufflé. Eating here was the perfect ending to a wonderful holiday vacation in NOLA!!!!

I had lunch with a friend on Sunday, Jan 19, with a reservation. Was immediately seated at a table in the main dining room. So far so good. Took a while for anyone to come to the table, but ok, we were enjoying our conversation. Room was rather full and quite noisy. Eventually a server arrived, brought menus, said she would come back for drink orders. I ordered a classic Champagne cocktail, I received a Belllini Not what I ordered, but I drank it anyway. Oysters Rockefeller - sort of. 2 of the halfshells had no oysters, and the topping was solid black rubber mass. Inedible. Sent it back, server said they would take it off the bill (which they did). Gumbo followed, and it was good. Sauteed redfish meuniere was good, not remarkable, Same with my companion' s food. Throughout, the service was competent and pleasant. I had been to the restaurant a number of times some years ago, but was deeply disappointed to find it has lost its excellence and authenticity. Very, very average. I will not return and advise avoiding the place. It has become nothing more than a tourist trap, and living on its past .

Either spotted one mouse twice or two mice in the upstairs dining room as our night was winding down - neither waiter nor host were surprised, “Oh did you see one?” and “It’s just being a restaurant in New Orleans” were two of the comments. Very unsatisfied that this was not a “shock” (the restaurant is aware) and that very little was said or done in response to our complaint.
We had a three course meal for two, with wine and coffee so our bill including tip was $240 - at a restaurant we would never frequent again and warn others not too given concerns over food hygiene.

We made reservations on the recommendation that this was a classic NOLA experience. Sadly, the food was really unappealing and overpriced. The avocado and crab salad had a generous portion of delicious crab, but it was served on a bed of discolored avocado and a few bibb lettuce leaves. Most egregiously, the crab was absolutely drowning in mustard sauce. I tried to push the sauce aside but it permeated the whole dish. The other dishes we ordered were mediocre and we couldn't finish any of them. All this and the prices were extravagant. Although we did not enjoy the food, I have to say the staff were all very attentive and welcoming. Too bad the cuisine did not match the atmosphere.

We were excited to experience fine dining at a classic New Orleans institution. What we received was worse than dining at a tourist trap.
We were the first seating of the evening, so we had no wait. Several large lunch tables were still sat, and the waiter seemed more interested in taking photos of them than acknowledging us. The table cloth had not been turned and was dirty.
Basically, the service was typical - get them out as fast as possible so we can turn the table. We received our appetizers before the waiter had even taken our entree order, so we had to eat the appetizers with our giant menus on our little two-top.
The food itself was terrible and the presentation non-existent. I would have sent it back if any employee had bothered to check on us before we were almost done. The duck was beyond well done and extremely dry (see photo). The shrimp Clemenceau looked like a Campbell's casserole with canned peas and mushrooms plopped on the plate with a soup ladle (see photo).
After that, we decided not to stay for dessert.
The price for the food was reasonable, but the wine was unbelievably overpriced.
Overall it was a waste of our time. We would have been better off going to an average restaurant.

I always enjoy coming here for lunch they don’t take reservations, so come early they open at 1130
Their puff potatoes are to die for, and I had the red fish special that was outstanding. This time it was someone in the restaurant Birthday and one of the street big bands come in and matched. Good times, great food and good service.

Had to go, one of the most famous restaurants in NOLA, big mistake. We were taken upstairs, our waitress, while friendly, was hardly ever around. My wife had the oysters Rockefeller, which were oysters topped with slimy creamed spinach. I had the Galatoire Goute [crab maison, shrimp remoulade] which was the best dish of the night, but had so much dressing that it was hard to taste the seafood. We then had the turtle soup and seafood gumbo and if we closed our eyes and just ate the heavy brown broth, could not tell the difference between the two. My wife then had the bouillabaisse which was nondescript and lukewarm. I had the crab meat au gratin, if there were bread crumbs they had sunk by the time it had reached me. The dish was a lukewarm bowl of cream sauce that overpowered the crab meat. The fact that all the dishes were lukewarm did not add anything to their flavor. For dessert we had key lime tart and bread pudding, both overly sweet. The overall experience was extremely disappointing, the service mediocre, at best. The food may have been trendy one hundred years ago, but now it is just a bunch of thick brown and cream sauces that overwhelm every dish. Save your money and go to a more modern place when you visit NOLA.

I found Galatoire’s offered a traditional dinner service without it feeling dated. The broiled black drum, with a side of étouffée, was excellent. The cocktails were well made, and the service was very professional. I would definitely return.

Having dined there each time we have been to New Orleans, the 4 of us looked forward to another wonderful dinner complete with ambience and great food. Our waiter started off with a wonderful attitude and exuberance but that wore down during the meal as I feel the restaurant was totally understaffed and he had far too many tables to give each one his attention. Asked for bread after we had the butter for quite some time. Finally had to asked twice for bread. Three of the 4 meals were barely warm, and for a steak that was very disappointing. Had 7pm reservations and we practically closed down the restaurant while many customers seated long after us had eaten and gone. For an establishment with such a fine reputation it was sub par for their standards of fine dining.

I hate to give a “just average, maybe even a little lower” rating to an iconic restaurant, especially during both Mardi Gras and a pandemic, but I must share our experience. We had reservations for four on the evening of Good Friday. We were seated at a corner table between two large, loud groups. The noise level could have been the cause of the mistake in one of the orders. Our friend ordered chicken but received crawfish etoufee. The maitre d came over to check on us so I told him what had happened. Since our friend doesn’t eat fish or seafood at all, he opted to send the etoufee back and get the chicken dish. In the interim, the server came back and apologized. She admitted that she had turned in the wrong order. Three of us ate our dinners (which were fine) when they arrived. The replacement chicken, however, did not arrive for at least 40 minutes and of course the rest of us were already finished.
Mistakes happen, especially under the circumstances, but our friend was charged the full price for his meal. The people in charge knew what happened and took responsibility and yet they still charged him full price for dilatory chicken. Considering the long wait and the effect that it had on our planned “laissez le bon temps rouler evening”, it was really the least they could have done.

We had reservations and sat in the front room, so weird how diners with no coats were escorted to the other room. Anyhow, we were seated right away but it was a long time before we were acknowledged with water (but then the water attendant was very attentive). A longer time for our main waiter to greet us then a bit of a wait for drinks.you I recognize Nola like other cities were just recovering from the Covid mess and there probably weren't enough staff but still. A drink order goes a long way toward making you feel comfortable with a wait.
My Sazeracs were very good which was helpful because this was a long evening, we sat down at 6:45 and finally paid the bill at 9:18. The food when it came was good, we had the shrimp remoulade as an app and split sauteed spinach with our entree of lemonfish($27) and filet ($34). The fish was quite good, flaky with a bit of a lemon tang. The filet cooked well.
I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance and the service but again... Covid?

We had booked this restaurant back in October for our New Years' Day lunch.
We had been informed that smart dress was required.
We were quite alarmed by the level of noise when we entered the foyer. The hostess was apologetic and offered to seat us in the rear dining room rather than where we had origibally booked. . Although a little cold and somewhat lacking in atmosphere, this was far preferable. The noise from the room in front would have been intolerable and we would not have stayed if this was the only option.
The table we utilised was on the main thoroughfare to both bathrooms and we could not believe how people were dressed when they walked by. Some in what I would describe as beachwear - bikini tops, hotpants, flipflops. A lot were wearing sports clothing. It did spoil our experience.
That said, we chose to get on with it as best we could as we would have been unlikely to get a table anywhere else on New Years Day.
We were looked after by Joni and she was amazing. It was obvious that the restaurant was understaffed for the ammount of guests present yet she was unruffled and very professional. Being from the UK, we were unfamiliar with a lot of the dishes on the menu but Joni took time to explain everything and us such our choices were delicious.
The Oysters Rockefeller were amazing - I will never eat raw again!
Both fish main courses were lovely.
We forced a few desserts down too and again, they could not be faulted.
From reading other reviews, things appeared to have changed at this restaurant. Perhaps (and understandably) lenghthy closures due to COVID has caused management to loosen dress requirements i.e. anything goes. This is a shame for those who do make the effort. I bought a new dress!
Although we enjoyed our meal thoroughly, it was not the fine dining experience we had so very much looked forward to.
Just one other minor point - the bus boy (Andrew) was a lovely guy and we had a good chat with him. It would have been better if he had mopped his brow as the sweat was drpping down his face.

Our daughters gave us a gift card to this restaurant when they found out we were going to be in New Orleans. When i saw that men's jackets were required, I was afraid it would be a stuffy old place, but I was definitely wrong about that. We were seated in the large dining room which as others have said is noisy, but that's due to the architecture - high, beautifully coffered, ceilings. Our server, Chip, was very personable and treated us like we were old friends. We were going to order the Shrimp cocktail but he recommended the Shrimp remolade and said if we didn't like it he'd bring us the Shrimp cocktail for no extra charge. Oh my goodness! His recommendation was spot on. The shrimp remolade was delicious. For dinner I had the Crawfish Etouffee which was excellent and my husband ordered Crab Yvonne which Chip recommended he add shrimp and crawfish to. Again Chip was right. My husband loved his meal. We had two great desserts - bread pudding for my husband, and mocha panna cotta for me. We both enjoyed a drink with dinner, and I had coffee after. Several people mentioned high prices for this restaurant, but I can't agree with that. We had a very nice meal with drinks, appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert for just over $100. Maybe because of where we live, but we couldn't get that type of meal, service or ambiance for that price here. I would recommend this restaurant and if we're back in NOLA again, we'll definitely come back.

French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
