This place was definitely worth it. For anyone who is gluten free sensitive, all the fried food is available for you! Nostalgic, lots of locals and definitely on our list the next time we're in the area!

OMG! Always fantastique! Does Cassamento's own their own oyster beds - they always have the best fresh, raw oysters on the half shell and their fried seafood is divine!

This is our first time visit after seeing review on TripAdviser. It is a disappointment. I ordered raw oysters and a catfish loafer. The oysters came very dirty, floating on dirty water, yuk! And the catfish loafer has no flavor at all. They must forgot to put any salt. Lettuce and tomato cost you extra money. And they accept cash... More

My son and husband both have celiac disease. The fact that everything at Casamentos is and always has been fried in cornmeal (not wheat flour) means that ALL the fried food from the French fries to the plump delicious oysters are gluten free. Don't feel deprived that you can't have the gumbo. The oyster stew (a cream chowder) is gluten... More

A New Orleans institution. Raw oyster eaters need to make a pilgrimage here to try their simple. excellent menu. No po-boys, but their "loaf" sandwiches use two pieces of Texas toast to build their sandwiches. The oyster chowder is wonderful. Fried seafood is done to perfection. A walk through the kitchen is necessary if you need to visit the bathroom... More

We began our meal with a 1/2 dozen raw oysters ... they were fabulous & we could have eaten more but wanted to save room for other "staples" from this neighborhood eatery. Next up were gumbo & oyster stew which spanned the flavor spectrum. Both bowls were delicious. Our last dish was a 1/2 catfish loaf with fries. The tender... More

We screwed up and ordered raw oysters, which were great. But the chargrilled oysters were out if this world. May have to go back again before this trip is done.

I HAVE to come here everytime I visit New Orleans. Located on Magazine Street, you can tell that this place is a favorite with locals by the lines to get a table. We ordered raw and charbroiled oysters plus a variety of other seafood. It was wonderful as always!

Visited Casamento's with my husband for lunch. We live in the area, but had never ate here before. I had heard & read good reviews. We drive by & there wasn't a line outside so we decided to stop. We had to park about 4 blocks away. The line ended just inside the door. Waited 40 minutes to get a... More

Had read a few great reviews of Casamentos's and I was very eager to have dinner there! I kind of dragged my wife and our 2 friends from the French Quarter to eat there. We got there early and had to wait outside for 45 minutes, as the place didn't open and until 4:30. The owner walked by and didn't... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
