In recent years we have expanded to include our famous Hermes Bar, which offers cocktails, beer and wine as well as a lighter more casual dining experience.

A group of 6, 3 couples out for a 50th birthday celebration. We were seated in the front room right by the front door and hostess stand. Our service was awful. After being seated we waited at least 15 minutes to have our drink order taken. We were left wondering why there was butter on the table as no bread was brought until we inquired about the butter. However at that point we had no plates on which to eat the bread. We ordered a bottle of white wine and were told a bucket would be brought for the wine but it was not until we ordered our second bottle. My crab appetizer was delicious as long as I didn't mind the few pieces of shell. I ordered a different sauce on my filet and was told hell yes that's possible but it came out with the original sauce. I was told they would bring a side of the Bearnaise sauce I ordered, but I had to explain that's no sufficient as this steak was already drowning in the original sauce. I ordered shrimp with my steak but that never came out of the kitchen. Fortunately, I was not charged for it. Despite all this the food actually was quite delicious and we had enough wine to still enjoy ourselves.

I made a reservation for 6 for 1pm December 17th. We were seated right away. The table was right in front of the Christmas tree and was perfect for us. They cram the tables in there so we were happy to be in the corner area. After water was poured our waiter came over and we ordered our 25 cent martinis. He also asked for our food order. I thought it was a little rushed but we knew what we wanted so went ahead and ordered. We ordered off the $20.20 menu and between us tried everything. We also ordered the oysters Rockefeller because we were in the place they were invented. The chargrilled oysters were delicious but we all agreed we weren't impressed with the Rockefeller. The oysters were big and cooked perfectly they was just seemed bland. We ordered another round of martinis to go with our entrees. The entrees of shrimp and grits were good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. For dessert half the table ordered bread pudding and the other half was sweet potato cheesecake. The bread puddings were dropped off and as those were being finished off the waiter dropped the check. I asked about the cheesecakes and another round of martinis. Someone came by and dropped off cheesecakes. No offer of coffee and no martinis. After awhile, the server collected the check and we just decided to leave. The employees were working hard. As a former server I was surprised at how far apart their tables were. Our water glasses were never empty and dirty dishes were cleared promptly. It wasn't the fine dining atmosphere we were expecting but enjoyed each other's company in the beautiful dining room. We wouldn't go back as there are too many fine restaurants in New Orleans to experience.

The price-fixe lunch was a good price at $20.20 for three courses. I started with the charbroiled oysters, which were delicious. Then I ordered the trout, and it was overcooked. The accompanying potato patty had a strange taste, kind of like mold. The pecan bread pudding was nothing special, with very few pecans. The 25 cent lemon drop martini tasted like lemonade and was very small, but a deal I guess. Our waiter was a very likable guy.

I made reservations 3 months in advance. We arrived on time, my husband in a jacket and I in my best hat. We were seated at a table that was no more than 22" across behind a post . After waiting for 5 minutes to be acknowledged, we asked for sparkling water, which we always drink. The sub-waiter had to go ask if they had any and returned with a single serving bottle of Perrier, which he poured over glasses filled to the top with ice. He asked if we wanted lemon or lime, to which we replied lime. He asked if we were having wine; yes I was having wine and my husband was not. He said he'd bring the wine menu. He returned with lemon slices, no wine menu and cleared both wine glasses. Then we waited, not touching our over frozen sparkling water in the hopes that we would get our limes. Instead a sub-waiter, different from the first, tried to top off our sparkling water with still. The Perrier bottle was clearly visible on our dinky table, but we actually had to argue with him to convince him that we didn't want his water. Then we waited. I watched a table for 6 being set with 2 overlapping table clothes. It worried me that they couldn't afford the appropriate size table coverings. After 10 minutes I looked up the nearest restaurant with availability on Open Table, made reservations and after leaving cash for the Perrier we never touched, walked out. On the way out our apparent waiter asked where we were going, and then said they were a little backed up. Really? The restaurant was about 1/3 full. Mind you we have traveled the world and I don't believe we have ever experienced this type of treatment before.

It started out bad and got worse. Upon entering there were at least 6 people from the staff at the hostess desk, it took them a few minutes to find our reservations. When we got seated an older waiter came to our table to take drink orders. His shirt tail was hanging out not very polished for a restaurant of this caliber. Than his assistant ( kid with spiked braid hair) comes to bring us water. He processed to knock over glasses pour water on the table drop silverware in my wife’s lap. There was no butter plates and all the silverware was not in proper order. We ordered the crawfish bisque and it was just some creamy red soup not even a piece of crawfish in it. I had soft shell crabs and it tasted like reheated crabs (they were not fresh) my wife had crab cakes and they were almost not edible. When the food portion was finished this kid waiter helper started throwing the dishes in a pile in front of my son before he removed them. He threw the glass of ice tea at us upon refilling the ice tea they had no ice left so I asked for a glass of ice and we each got a 2nd glass of tea. This is some of the worst service I ever had in a restaurant. Desert comes out (baked Alaska) and the kid could not even serve that correctly. He had a spoon to put the chocolate sauce on the desert but he decided to pick up the bowl and pour it on. The owners should be ashamed of this service for being one of the oldest restaurants in the country. The professional of the staff was zero. I am a resident of New Orleans and make our rounds to the better restaurants but this place should be left out. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this overpriced restaurant where even a national chain puts this place to shame. This wasn’t at our table but in the corner by the curtains where the couple got cherries jubilee and the kid waiter set the tablecloth on fire not to say the least where he was throwing the flaming liquor around in the air. Thank god I didn’t order that. If this process continues letting an incompetent kid keep serving deserts NOFD will be making a fire hear. The owners should look into this wait staff and replace it

We went to Antoine’s for Sunday brunch - and were disappointed. For all the hype and history it was distinctly average, if not sub-average. You are going for the experience but the service was very slow and unfriendly. At over $20 an omelette you expect it to be fresh and hot! Not rubbery and barely warm. The soufflé potatoes which were a speciality were good and different but the rest of the experience was nothing special.

Although this restaurant is highly touted, and a classic in NOLA, I was disappointed with our experience. Our party of six was seated at a round table in a cavernous dining room with high ceilings. The noise level was so high I could not converse with my dinner companions across the table. The chairs are small wooden chairs with no cushion. Very uncomfortable for a fine dining establishment. Impossible to sit longer than an hour without being pained Cocktails were ordered, I ordered iced tea. Cocktails were delivered. I had to ask again for my tea. My tea was finally delivered after everyone had finished their cocktails. A trio of soups was brought to the table. Gumbo, Alligator and Shrimp Bisque. All were very good. My husband ordered the Steak w/ Frites and caramelized onions. The steak was tough, and the frites were weird little squares of potato and void of caramelized onions. I ordered the Shrimp Creole. There were six medium sized shrimp drowning in a very bland creole sauce. The shrimp had a strong iodine taste. I couldn't eat this. Complimentary creamed spinach was sent to the table. This was very good. Service was fine, but I can definitely say that we will not return since the food is mediocre at best and very expensive

I wanted to go to Antoine’s because my in-laws went here on their honeymoon 60 years ago and they are both gone now. We got in a few minutes early, the person to check you in just didn’t see, welcoming at all. She told us we could wait in the bar so we did. We ordered our drinks. We were waited on but then the staff just stood around talking. 5:30 came and went and no one came to get us which was weird, so about after 10 minutes we went out there and were sent to a table, we had to carry our own drinks and the man that walked us to our table went way too fast. We were seated and given menus quickly. Our orders were taken, my husband got the lamb chops but i think he ordered the shank (47.00), what came out was the one with mint jelly which is not what we ordered. I ordered the pompano (42.00). It was small and was supposed to have some sauce...she had to bring me some sauce. Not sure why it was so expensive unless this is a hard fish to get but i think it was overpriced by quite a bit. We each got dessert (8.00) each. I had chocolate mousse which the whip cream tasted like it came from a can. My husband had the key lime tart which he liked. Overall service was average although i noticed one young man with blonde hair that really knew his stuff, an older server looked like he was just about ready to retire but he was nice. Other staff was okay. Food was good, not great, had errors. Drinks okay. Wouldn’t go back and would recommend other restaurants more but i did it to be where my in laws dined long ago. I miss them dearly.

Pompano filet was probably a 2oz piece of overcooked fish. I asked if the entree on the fixed price special could be ordered a la carte, and was told no. No way to treat a customer. The "famous" oysters Rockefeller were a total bust. The 'secret' topping was like school glue and the oysters were not fresh. Service was poor at best. Don't waste your time, go elsewhere, like Emeril's NOLA. R. Miller TX

My husband and I chuckled over our visit to Antoine's. We agree it was one of the worst experiences we have had at a restaurant. The waitstaff had a look down their nose attitude that brought out the worst in me. I am not a snob, but, their attitude made me want to ask where they got their degrees compared to mine. (I didn't do it) There were 3 of us, all with advanced degrees and we were insulted by the staff all night. They first started leading us down to what appeared to be a dungeon until one of us objected (we did have reservations) Of course we ordered oysters which were filled with broken shells and tasted anything but fresh. The meal continued in this direction with the waiter acting like there was something wrong with us when we questioned the problems.

Jacqueline - We apologize for your recent visit to Antoine's and the impression we left on your group. This was definitely not behavior we encourage at Antoine's and will discuss with the staff that had your party. If you are in the New Orleans area in the future, we would like to try us again and we will pay for your dinner. My email is lblount@antoinesrestaurant.com I would be the person to contact.

We were warmly greeted for our dinner reservation. The main room, although elegant, lacked warmth in my opinion, so we were happy to be shown into the next dining room, with red walls and covered with memorabilia. This restaurant has been serving food for over a hundred years. We tried the oysters Rockefeller, which were created there, as a starter. Both of us had fish entrees. The portions were generous and delicious. The service was excellent, and elegant. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful in making dinner recommendations. Our waiter informed us of the history of Antoine’s and encouraged us to take a tour of the premises. So glad we did, we had no idea of all the private dining rooms, including one which was a speakeasy back in the day, and another filled with Mardi Gras memorabilia. Highly recommend for a classy evening out.

We were there for dinner on a recent Saturday on a trip for a friend's birthday, and based on our last experience four years ago (which was great in all regards), the experience was a let down. The food was very good, however the service seemed clumsy, rushed and lacking in attention. It felt like our server(s) were unfamiliar with fine dining service. The soup course was forgotten for the one person who ordered it, a different vintage wine was brought with no mention of the difference or lack of availability of the vintage ordered (the wine steward didn't even stop by the table to address it), a shared dessert was attempted to be taken away before being finished, and when caught the waiter still took one diner's dessert plate and left the dirty fork on their napkin, placed on the table while they were in the bathroom. What was anticipated as a highlight meal of our trip was sadly not.

We were fortunate to grab reservations at Antoine's New Year's Eve night, it's such a historic and nostalgic restaurant for a real NOLA experience. The ambiance and service were top-notch, however, the room we were seated in was a bit like a refined VFW hall, but probably because it was a busy crowded night. For appetizers the Huîtres au Charbon is a MUST, I'm not a big fan of oysters, but I could have just ate those all night long for dinner! The food was good and the prices are reasonable for fine dining. We were served by a 5th generation family member who was so upbeat and accommodating, it made the experience even more special!

Going to the birthplace of Oysters Rockefeller and a historic gem of New Orleans, my girlfriend and I were excited and anticipating a great experience at Antoine’s. What we received was an experience indeed. We arrived five minutes early of our reservation and had to wait 15 to be seated. The food was mediocre. I had the Coq au Vin and it was quite bland. In fact, my girlfriend and I made it ourselves a few months ago and ours was actually better. Kitchen amateurs should not be able to surpass a place like Antoine’s. The staff was not in communication with each other and wine that was ordered with dinner never arrived at our table. When the plates were delivered, we were told the wine was on its way. No one returned for 20 minutes. We had to ask one of our two waiters to take the wine we never received off of the bill. In short, Antoine’s was once, not just a great restaurant, but a great food experience in the French Quarter. Now, it is merely a resemblance. Go and browse the historic pieces in some of the museum-like rooms at Antoine’s, but then leave and go to Arnaud’s for dinner instead. The service and food experience there is what Antoine’s once delivered.

I, a young man at 76 years, had not been to Antoine's for two years, but to celebrate the 86th birthday of a lady friend who wanted Baked Alaska, I was happy to return. We ordered the $21 lunch special which included three charbroiled oysters (as good as Drago's but with a different treatment} and a large flaky trout (substituting for the usual puppy drum). Each of us also enjoyed a Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay. The Baked Alaska came with candles and a birthday song led by our server Sterling Amour. Sterling is the reason that I will try to return more often to Antoine's. Because my 86 year old friend has an unsteady gait behind a walker, Sterling sat us at the table nearest the door and he was very attentive to her comfort. As we were leaving, Sterling supplicated his female supervisor to enter the ladies room' to ensure my friend's safety. Then Sterling helped us to the taxi. This is sterling service, Antoine. Thanks.

French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
