Some of the best fried catfish I've ever had - flaked and not greasy...neat little place uptown New Orleans - mostly locals. Red beans and rice was also good...Best Cajun food is outside the quarter!

After a missed opportunity for fried chicken at Willa Mae's (they close at 2pm) we ordered an Uber as we were hungry and hot. Since fried chicken was off the menu, my husband and I asked about oysters to which our Uber driver said "Frankie and Johnny's is where the locals get their oysters" A dozen grilled oysters, a dozen... This place was recommended by a friend when we said we wanted to go get some oysters and traditional NOLA food. This was a very busy place and worth the visit.

Neighborhood joint and a welcome respite from the French Quarter. Easily worth the $12 Uber trip. Nice selection of seafood specialties and New Orleans classics. Boiled shrimp the right way - w heads. Crawdads, too. Red beans and rice with andouille is spot on. Full bar and a good selection of taps. Abita styles, Stella and $2 pints of PBR...great... More

The reasonably priced menu and boiled shrimp brought me to their door. Our waitress was very attentive and hospitable. We started with an order of onion rings (made fresh not frozen) then I ordered the 1/2 lb boiled shrimp. First time I've gotten boiled shrimp with the heads on. The cocktail sauce was thick and chunky and AMAZING! My hubby... More

Went for lunch for our last meal. Inside recently redone for an update, but old New Orleans ambience remains. Our food was outstanding--raw oysters seafood gumbo, fried shrimp, red beans & rice. Service was okay and kitchen was slower than slow. Our server did not timely update us and we were informed of the problem by another server. Took away... More

My husband and I ended up here accidentally. The restaurant we intended to visit was closed. Frankie and Johnny happened to be in the neighborhood and we were starving. I didn't want to go in because it looked like a run down bar, but we were too hungry to want to keep driving around. Wow, were we surprised! The food... More

I didn't actually eat there but I had cause to contact them for some copies of receipts to process for an expense report. I'm sure they have a million better things to be doing than hunting down weeks old receipts but they did it quickly, efficiently and with great customer service. I'm going there to shake Dave's hand and have... More

I'm a local and have had this on my bucket list to try, so when my husband had to work late we met up for supper here. We went on a weeknight so I was able to get a parking spot in the parking lot and not have to do on street parking. We ordered onions rings (thicker cut-good) and... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
