While in New Orleans with friends, we found this restaurant while searching for great seafood dishes. The restaurant is beautiful, and we took a table for 5 in the front window. We all ordered from the Prix Fixe menu and enjoyed an array of fine dishes. For starters we had the gumbo, lobster bisque, and carrot ginger coconut soup. Delicious!!! Then... More

We stopped into The Pelican Club for a drink as we'd had a meal (at Killer Poboys) before. The bar staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. The food looked excellent and we'll try that next visit.

First meal of first trip to NOLA, and it largely did not disappoint. Cocktails were on point. I will mention we had one waiter for drinks and another for food, which was a bit odd and was never exactly explained to us; not a big deal, but it made the experience just a tad less cohesive. We had the barbecue... More

Amazing whole flounder! Beautiful environment. Very intimate and comfortable. It's hard to select from the menu because everything seemed fantastic. The coconut cream pie was the best ever!

An adventure in food. I had the flounder, head eyes and all! It has been years since I have eaten fish this way. Daringly I dug in and found the fish was delicious. There were no complaints from the other diners who ordered duck and filet. We were not disappointed. Waiting at the bar we enjoyed great cocktails too.

My wife and I had dinner tonight here and were delighted. We both had the rack of lamb. Unlike other restaurants were we have had a rack of lamb, the serving was generous (6 chops) and really well cooked. Pecan pie to follow was delightful. Nice dining room with cloth table cloths and serviettes - overall pretty classy. Option to... More

Great service! We started with Bellinis & Poinsettias. The baked oysters with bacon & cheese were incredible & I don't like oysters. I had the goat cheese salad & it was outta this world. I had the pork with grits & my daughter had the filet mignon. Expect a pricey meal here. The filet, while good, was pricey at $35.... More

The truth is we arrived in NOLA for meeting, with understandable uncertainty about arrival time without reservations The places we usually go had long lines or no tables in Bourbon area. Without a car we found this place & took a chance The hit of the evening was the flour-less torte for my wife But gumbo was excellent. I had... More

The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
