I actually walked past JoeyK's to stop somewhere prior, knowing I would eat there. It was in our plans. Someone sitting outside actually stopped our group to say, "This is th best place, don't keep on walking." Boy was he correct. This was THE best place I ate at during my entire stay in New Orleans! Our group tried the... More

Joey K's came highly recommended to us by several locals. It's a medium sized restaurant in what appears to be a converted store. The interior is neither posh nor run-down. It's a comfortable place in which to dine. Entrees are in the $15 to $20 range. We had grilled tuna and also grilled trout. The tuna was superb. I cannot... More

It's a great alternative for the usually oily new Orleans food. The restaurant rests in a very beautifull area of the garden district. The extensive menu gave us a hard time: there were so many good alternatives That it was dificult to decide what to eat. My tuna was absolutely delicious, as much as my husbands chicken. Everything very fresh... More

We waited 20 minutes to get a coke and water. meanwhile people who were seated after us were served their dinners. It took another 10 minutes to order then 30 to get a burgers. We also ended up with with stomach pains after eating. However, the place was packed so maybe we were just the unlucky ones.

Dropped in after walking thru the Garden District. Place was full, but seated quickly. Service as a little off, but food was very good. Ordered gumbo (very good), but it came after our entrees were delivered. Wide ranging menu with more American dishes than traditional Cajun. But all seemed well prepared.

At lunch here with hubby. He got a cup of gumbo, I got a cup of red beans and rice. We split an oyster po'boy. Sandwich was good, the gumbo was good, but the red beans and rice were out of this world. Smoky, smooth and saucy. YUM!!!!

Very slow, disinterested lunchtime service and variable food. We ate an excellent blackboard special grilled shrimp and artichoke heart salad & macaroni and cheese. The remoulade dressing for the standard shrimp salad was long on mayonnaise and short on Louisiana spicing. The grilled shrimp and lettuce were both fresh and flavorful. The shrimp po'boy was served on dry bread with... More

I would go out of my way to go here. Food is comfort food... wide variety. Everyone seemed to like their food. I ordered Jambalaya and it was dry and did not have much taste... it was a daily special and must have been sitting for a while.

We have eaten at Joey K's for several years for lunch or dinner, and especially when company comes to town. The menu truly has something for everyone. I especially like the hearty nightly specials. Service is always friendly and food comes out hot and fresh.

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
