It was getting late and knew we needed to get a meal. We ended up at Luke's. The menu isn't large but seems to be a good quality. We skipped appetizers and ordered entrees. The restaraunt isn't very large but we really liked the marine decor and laid back vibe this place had. I got the mussels and was pleasantly... More

We were super pleased with our first restaurant visit in NOLA, at Luke in the CBD -- the young staff at this brassiere was exceptional (really friendly, helpful, courteous, & efficient), the ambiance was most pleasant, and the food was excellently prepared + delicious :)). Louisiana style cuisine combined with other offerings (from different regions/countries) were included on their excellent... More

Luke was recommended by a friend who had eaten here while in town for a conference. I did the same and was NOT disappointed. The shrimp and grits (with a much fancier name on the menu) were phenomenal. I took bread pudding back to the room (which may have been my distant) for a late night snack - which was... More

The shrimp and jalapeño grits were amazing. The sauce was just right and the bits of andouille in the dish added just the perfect amount of extra flavor. I added crab meat to mine and it was wonderful. They were swamped, but I felt the servers could have been a bit more attentive. Understandable though considering how busy they were.

Had breakfast here while staying at the Hilton. Good food, and a healthy option (granola, berries and yogurt). Perhaps the $13.00 bill was standard for New Orleans breakfast, but it was a bit steep in my book.

Luke tries to be a bit of everything rolled into one, in this busy French inspired bistro. The wait staff is terrific and attentive. The grits were thicker than I am used to, more of a mashed potato consistency (I think it's just a palate preference). My roast chicken was seriously out of this world as were the oysters. I... On a recent visit back to New Orleans my sister met us for dinner at Luke on St. Charles Avenue. What a great little restaurant. We started out with a dozen happy hour oysters on the half shell followed by their crabmeat au gratin and finished up with a bowl of their excellent seafood gumbo. The service was good but... More

We started with drinks at the bar, which was packed and took quite a while to get served. All of the staff we experienced were great, super friendly and knowledgeable. Dinner was great too. Try the Brussel Sprouts!

Eight of us shared a few bottles of wine a the warm bread and butter. I had the grilled shrimp etouffee that has home made pasta and no tails on the shrimp (I prefer that). It was excellent. My husband had the swordfish that was very good also. We split the beet salad and a creme brulee desert. Everything was... More

We enjoyed lunch at this restaurant close to our hotel. Other restaurants have referred to their "fluffy " omelettes but this truly the first and only real fluffy one I have ever had! It was amazingly light and filled with a delicious mixture of mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and cheese. The side salad greens were lightly dressed with tasty dressing and... More

Luke New Orleans is Besh's homage to the grand old Franco-German brasseries that once reigned in New Orleans. Luke offers an extensive French, German, and Belgian beer selection, including three exclusive house brews [custom-made in Louisiana]. The cuisine is unaffectedly Old World, using slow and traditional cooking techniques. The wine list features reds and whites from the Loire, Alsace, and Savoie regions, as well as Badischerwiens of Germany. Since opening in 2007, Luke has been hailed by Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and The Times-Picayune Lagniappe, which awarded Luke an impressive three bean-ranking for its "disarmingly home-spun culinary touches and broad-shouldered dishes that satisfy something more than just an appetit."

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
