We travelled here for lunch. The setting is beautiful as is the restaurant.
We ordered the tasting menu as we like to try different things. The dishes were tasty and I tried some dishes I would not otherwise have tried like sweet meats which were delicious. We were surprised that there was no meat course and the waitress seemed to take charge of the wine without asking us and served wines we didn’t not like which was strange and expensive. All in all it probably wasn’t worth the trip as we went out of our way to go here.

Very smart restaurant. We went for the surprise 5 course meal - all very good as you would expect. We took our baby with us and the staff were accommodating providing a high chair. Fantastic view over the Dordogne. Not especially expensive - the 5 course menu for 2 with paired wine came to around 200 euro (I was expecting more!!). Highly recommend.

The hostess and the staff were very friendly and responded wonderfully to my requests for lactose-free food. The kitchen is largely butter-free!
The amuse-bouches and the dishes were lovingly and deliciously prepared. We were delighted by the daring combinations of the food.
The wine selection is perfect!

We stopped for lunch en route to Caen we were slightly early the restaurant wasn't yet open for service but the Chef kindly allowed us in to wait. It's a fairly spacious restaurant located just off the bridge overlooking the water. We were shown a table which faced the bridge other rather than the views of the river. I wasn't too enamoured with it but as we did not reserve I took it for granted the restaurant was full. After a short while, it became obvious that the restaurant had other tables available and we duly asked for one facing the river. Why we were not given one at the outset I do not know. One can only speculate! With regards to the food, the mise en bouche was a hit and miss affair, with four selections, two quite delicious the remainder for me unpleasant and clashing. The turbot as the main course was pleasant enough as was the dessert. Not sure if the 18 euros price tag for the dessert was warranted. I found the whole construction of the menu a little too busy. The chef appears to experiment with different components and flavours. When it works it's fine otherwise back to the drawing board. Would I go again? maybe. The final bill was over €250 so it will need some serious thought.

This is a fantastic restaurant. When we are in this region it would be a mistake not to visit Auberge St Jean for lunch or dinner. The food is exceptional, service perfect and the ambience and decor very relaxing. For this level of dining we feel it is good value. Manuela at front of house insures everything is to the upmost of standards, and all the team are helpful with the menu assisting with your choices. Chef Thomas designs and prepares the most fantastic food, beautifully presented. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

From the moment we arrived our experience was a treat. Great service. Impeccable setting. Beautiful handmade pottery and artistic touches. We had the "Au Fil De..." 7 course menu and asked it to be paired with the waiter's wine recommendations. Every dish was dazzling and a taste sensation. The wine pairings were clearly very well thought through. We'll be back!

It was a busy week in Saint Emillion and we had difficulty finding a table for dinner. Our hotel receptionist suggested Auberge Saint Jean - a short and very pleasant drive south of the hustle and bustle to an amazing spot alongside a beautiful bridge over the Dordogne river. The welcome was warm and friendly, and our table had a stunning view over the river but the best was yet to come. An unexpected array of amuse-bouche dishes was presented, each one delicious and full of exciting flavours. We selected from the a la carte and enjoyed main courses of exceptional quality and flavour. This is a restaurant not to be missed if you travel to this corner of France.

Exceptional and inventive cuisine prepared to the highest standard in a lovely Auberge on the banks of the Dordogne river. Outstanding wine list and warm hospitality. Consistently excellent. Asian touches to traditional French cuisine enhance the dining experience. Can recommend most highly. Menus are thoughtfully constructed and offer excellent value for such a high-end dining experience. Bravo!

Only a short drive from St Emilion you will find this treasure of a restaurant. From the amuse bouche to the petits fours it was perfect. We asked the waitstaff to recommend a wine and they asked varied questions before proposing a bottle which we were able to taste first. Great choice. Superb dinner. The joy of surrounding diners was evident so it wasn't just that we were hungry! Drive the 15 minutes- its worth it.

Another wonderful meal at Auberge St Jean - full of invention and harmony. All of my family including our two children enjoyed the lunch immensely - particularly our son, who was there for his birthday. As usual, the welcome and service were exemplary. And of course, we enjoyed the lovely ambience overlooking the river. It was a special afternoon.

a small family owned michelin starred restaurant on the dordogne river just outside Saint -Emilion. this is definitely worth a visit and quite a bargain compared to the other michelin starred places throughout France. book ahead for the place is fairly small. it is also about a 15 minute taxi fro Saint - Emilion.

My husband and I had a superb lunch here today. The meal started with amuse bouche which set the tone for the whole experience. Each little mignardise was delicious, imaginative and made you aware that the chef is both prodigiously talented and possesses a quiet, but well developed, sense of humour. Next came the terrine of aubergine which arrived looking like a garden, and was definitely a high point of the meal, then followed a perfectly cooked John Dory and a tabouleh of nectarine for dessert. I have never had couscous for dessert before, but the flavour combinations and the freshness of the ingredients made for a refreshing end to the meal on a very hot day. I won't mention the surprise in the centre but that, and the presentation of my husband's chocolate concoction, did make me smile. By this time, we felt so relaxed that we didn't want to leave the air-conditioned comfort of the dining room overlooking the river, so we ordered a coffee and a tisane which arrived, with more tiny a divine desserts, in the most beautiful hedgehog shaped Japanese earthenware teapot - a final nod to the simplicity, beauty, attention to detail, humour and imagination that resides in this place. Thank you for a very memorable meal!

Auberge St Jean is one our favourite restaurants in South West France. With its imaginative and inventive cuisine, along with the wonderful hospitality and service, and an outstanding wine list it is an excellent destination for anyone in the region. The restaurant is wonderfully situated overlooking the Dordogne and provides a relaxing and restful ambience. A recent lunch on Sunday was as ever sumptuous and enjoyable, and we remarked on the outstanding pigeon, amongst a plethora of hugely enjoyable dishes and accompaniments. This is a great address for a great meal.

It is always with great pleasure that we have dined in this restaurant to which we have been loyal for several years. A few subtle changes in the decoration and furniture give it a warmer feel. Seasonal vegetables are particularly appreciated for their freshness and crunch. Manuela in the dining room and Thomas in the kitchen take great care of their guests. Special mention to the server (new, since last November) whose discretion, class and smile we appreciated. We will of course come back.

Exceptional quality & preparation of food in a lovely riverside setting. I was first served a trio of amuse-bouches. I then had a three-course menu, starting with the foie gras served with a delicate yet intensely flavorful broth. That was followed by sweet, fresh scallops and I finished with the "tout le chocolat" dessert. Services was attentive without being intrusive. A 5-star experience.
