We don't do Mexican very often. Tonight I thought of the one which has been around for decades, The Original Mexican Restaurant. What, no reviews since 2017? They are open. So I will give them one. The service began immediately upon sitting down. The complimentary...chips and salsa is medium hot. My dinner was the Camarones Yucatecos which is grilled marinated shrimp, veggies, lettuce and rice and came on a very hot plate which kept the meal hot until I finished. Nice touch. The marinated shrimp was a comfortable flavor but more on the bland side. No heat here. Should have ordered the Camarones a la Diabla. Sweet tea was average. My wife ate light choosing one soft chicken taco and a Guacamole salad which were v. good. I suspect this restaurant is being confused with one of the seven 'Mexico Restaurant' locations and posted there and not on "The Original Mexican Restaurant" on Horsepen near Broad. Will return.More

Great for lunch or dinner. I go here at least once a week and get the fajitas. The portion size is enough for two meals which is one of the reasons I choose this dish. They offer a large portion of vegetables as well. They...have some of the best salsa and chips as well and the margaritas are good too!More

Warm family atmosphere. I love their salsa, always buy some extra to take home. They give big servings. You don't go away hungry, just full as a tick.

My son's favorite. Staff helped us celebrate. They even supplied a candle for the cake. My baby boy is bigger than me and has some grey hair so we didn't sing or take pictures. Fun place to celebrate.

Very nice service and very fast. I usually have the fajitas and they are wonderful value for money. The portions are good too, I usually can't finish mine, but that maybe because they always provide lots of nachos and dip before the meal.

Fast service and quiet enough to have conversations. Something that I had noticed as a problem in other restaurants lately. (thought it was my hearing;) Very pleasant. Sever checked and refilled our drinks and chips without requesting. Plenty of food and good value for the...money.I got the grilled chicken . Very tender.More

I had the Burrito Grande and the what little chicken inside was like the chicken that comes out of a can, the burrito was full of rice and beans and not much else including the missing cheese. My wife had a chile relleno with beans...on the side, the meat in the relleno didn't taste like beef, not sure what it was made of but we didn't like it. The beans were worse than most refried beans that come in a can, again not much flavor at all. We will not be backMore

Got a hankering for Tex-mex food then head on down to Mexico in Richmond. Simple Mexican food in large portions. Nothing fancy but the enchiladas, burritos, tacos are all good. Retried beans , Spanish style rice. You can add heat as you like. The nachos...are really good. Just the place to go with kids too.More

I come here often to eat. Always get the Taco Salad. The service is quick and the people waiting on you are very nice and polite. The prices are reasonable.

Compared to your standard Mexican restaurants around Richmond, VA, Mexico Restaurant is quite typical. We have enjoyed lunch at Mexico Restaurant once before and recently stopped in again. Just as expected, chips and salsa were brought to the table. I don't know why this is...always such a treat to me, but it is. Simple pleasures, I guess. We placed our order, I slipped off to the ladies' room, and the food was already delivered when I arrived back at our table. Now, that's what I call FAST service. Unless you're going fast-food, you really can't get any faster than this. And if you're comparing to fast food, this Mexican cuisine is way better. Since I am not Mexican and have never been to Mexico, I will not make any recommendations based on authenticity. All I can compare to is other local Mexican restaurants, and this one fits right in. The service is good and fast. The food is plenty delicious. If you need a quick stop for lunch but do not want to go the fast-food route, slip into Mexico Restaurant. You'll be fed and ready to go in a jiffy.More

My boss does not like change, he's from Colorado, and spends every other week in Richmond. With this being said, he is a frequent visitor to Mexico - I'm not endorsing his evening dinner's here, I'm endorsing their call in - pick up lunch for...him! I call in the Large Soup with extra crackers they always throw in chips and salsa. He thinks the soup is the best in Richmond, and gives it as many stars as optional. now, I gave this review 4 stars, because, me, being a foodie, cannot guarantee the taste of the soup, but I can sure back the ease, and efficiency of the to - go order!More

A group of my friends met here on a tues night a little later in the evening so they weren't all that busy. We had 5.99 golden margaritas and they were quite good and jumbo. My boyfriend was drinking tall 3.50 dos equis. I loved...their guacamole and salsa. They had fresh cilantro and overall great flavor. I ordered the enchiladas surpreme and they were good, exactly what you'd expect. My boyfriend ordered the beef chimmys and seemed content even though our friend warned us when she ordered them they were dry. We all had a nice time and they service was prompt. I will be back for the margaritas if nothing else! I also hear they have $1 taco night on mondays.More

Bland, yankee-geared menu with bottom-quality ingredients and sloppy service. I'll go to genuine Latino places like Don Pepe Restaurant instead.
