My wife and I have always thought of Roots Morristown as our go to celebration restaurant! This was a dinner to celebrate our 58th anniversary. Maybe because of covid we found the steak to be well below the standard we expect from Roots. I had...to send back the KC Steak which I ordered medium rare which was recommended by our waiter as being full of flavor and juice because it had a bone. The steak presented to me was dry burnt on the edges and hard and was more medium than medium rare. The waiter quickly replaced the KC steak with a NY strip which was acceptable, but still lacked that Oh my god moment one should get when one takes a bit of a great steakhouse steak. My wife filet steak was good, but also lacked that my god moment. Thought I was at Outback Steakhouse for a brief moment. I am hoping the quality of the steak was an anomaly because of the covid period, which I realize has made it difficult for restaurants to survive. My wife and I won’t be back until the covid pandemic is long gone.More

Due to the coronavirus we planned a small family gathering in Gillette. Some of our order was missing. So we had to drive all the way back to pick up the missing food. After spending so much money the food was terrible. We totally understand...it can’t be easy working under these circumstances. By now you would think that they would have had plenty of experience. Our family is usually not critical about takeout food, this is the second time this is happened. This is one of our favorite restaurants and will definitely go once they reopen.More

This is our go-to for special occasions. Unfortunately costs a small fortune for our family of 4 (about $300 with tip) so we don’t go too often. The food and service is excellent though. Everything we’ve had was delicious—calamari, bacon slab, seafood tower, tuna, lobster...salad, steaks, molten cake, creams brûlée... you get a popover as your bread. You’ll be tempted to eat it all but don’t! There is too much good food that you will fill up on! And you need to save room for dessert. My daughter is picky and we’re able to get chicken tenders for her, probably the least expensive item! The vibe is typical of high end steakhouses. It’s a nice atmosphere. Service is always top notch. Can’t wait to go back!More

I am a frequent diner of luxury steak houses and after dining at Roots I have never been so disappointed. I started off the night by asking our waiter if they had any crab legs as a special. The waiter advised me they did not...but they did have snow crab claws. I told the waiter I would love the snow crab claws but only if they can be served hot. Shortly after the waiter comes out with the snow crab claws on ice. I clarified with the waiter that they were suppose to be served hot. The waiter brought them back to the kitchen and shortly after brought them back to our table. I have never tasted crab that was so rubbery. Not to mention my friend sliced her finger open trying to break open the claw (which evidently they just threw on the grill heat up). The waiter was very kind and brought out band aids. Shortly after our main meal arrived. We had ordered the porterhouse for two MEDIUM. The steak came out purple. AGAIN I called over the waiter to express my dissatisfaction with our food because this is not what we requested. They brought it back to the kitchen and cooked it some more. They brought the meat back to the table STILL RARE. I was appalled. Roots is “supposedly” a high end luxury steak house and they cant even get their steak temperatures right. In the end, the manager only charged me for our drinks, the steak and our oysters (took off the crab, the side of potatoes and Brussels sprouts) but I do not believe that was good enough. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a luxury steakhouse. Save your money and go to ruth chris. They will get it right every time.More

Four of us had a great dinner. The steaks were done to perfection. Service was excellent and the Hush Puppies to start with were great

Steaks and sides were ordinary. Have had better "Prime" steaks in other cities. Prices in line with most decent steakhouses. Seafood dishes were excellent. Service wes quite good. Just a note. Didn't order steak and seafood during the same visit.

My son and I had gone in August as a going back to college dinner! We enjoyed the appetizer, entree's, sides, and desserts. My son was super happy to have such a great meal before eating cafeteria food:) For appetizer's we had the shrimp cocktail,...the shrimp were large and the cocktail sauce was incredible. Our entree's were bone in filet and a 12oz. petite prime strip. Both dishes were plenty and the steaks were cooked perfectly, the sides complimented the steaks nicely, and the presentation is impressive. The desserts are fantastic especially since I have a sweet tooth. We had the warm butter cake and 7-layer carrot cake, just heavenly.More

The atmosphere and service is terrific - along with great food served fresh and hot with steaks and filet mignon a specialty. Great staff and bartenders with top shelf wines and liquors.

This is a very high-end experience and the execution just did not measure up. The staff forgot to items on our order and we ended up canceling one of them as the amount of time taken to bring it was way too long. Everyone enjoyed...the taste of their food, however I personally thought my prime rib was bland. The side dishes were very good, as were the drinks-but a $500 bill for six people everyone should be giving this five starsMore

In town for a concert - my sister and I visited this upscale steakhouse. Was seated promptly and menus and water brought over. Had the shaved steak sandwich with french fries. Absolutely came as ordered and very enjoyable sandwich. My sister had the Roots Trio...- clam chosder. lobster roll, and filet mignon slider - looked good although I am not a lobster person. Wine was also good with this meal. If I had to complain - there were too many french fries - but I managed to finish them all. Good atmosphere - music was playing - all '60s tunes that were easily recognizable and not too loud for conversation purposes. Would go back anytime. One note - there is something of a dress code posted outside - collared shirts for men, for example - but that does not bother me in the least. Great time on a cool and rainy Sunday.More
