We booked to go on a Thursday evenings for restaurant part at the rear of the pub, I find it more relaxing there. Super service from the off, all the options on the board were available as well as one or two extras. Drinks were served promptly and whilst the food order wasn't quick we were kept informed and I... Went a few times last year. You may need to book as it's very popular, even though it's in a quiet back street away from Penarth town centre. Staff are very accommodating. Menu is not that comprehensive but quality of the food is very good and highly recommend. It's more of a restaurant than a pub, I guess the modern... More

Excellent choice of well kept real ales and an interesting menu. The fish & chips were lovely with homemade tartare sauce and peas puree on the side. Very pleasant service too.

I'm must say the pilot has really gone down hill which is a great shame as it was a regular place I like to dine but the past 3 times I have been there I have been unhappy with my meal , the food just doesn't taste as good as it use to and the portion sizes have gone a... More

Visited on a bank holiday Monday. Wasn't that busy but took forever to be attended to and for our food to arrive. Overpriced for what it was. It was tasty though and you can sit outside with your dog (if you can find a seat)

We were in Penarth on a Sunday for a family occasion, and needed an early lunch. My son looked at tripadvisor and came up with The Pilot. The previous reviews were good, and it was all we expected. It was just open so we were served straight away, although it got busier later, with a couple of large groups. That... More

Excellent roasted cod for lunch and the starter of egg-based brioche was also excellent. Good choice of beer but was opaque and could have been better. Staff were friendly and helpful and the place had a mixture of families and couples of all ages.

We live near the Discovery Pub in Cardiff, which is part of the same group, however more often than not, we travel across town to visit the Pilot. Not only is it dog friendly to our gorgeous poochon (& all other well behaved dogs of course) the staff are super friendly and attentive. Tonight we tried the chef special recommended... More
