On Thursday morning of August 15th, 2019, after coming off the overnight ferry at the port of Argentia, my wife and I drove a short distance to Philip’s Café, 170 Jerseyside Hill in Placentia NL. On that sunny morning, we met the friendly owners of...the restaurant Philip and Linda before trying their Big Breakfast, with 2 free-range eggs, bacon or ham, pan-fried potatoes, toast with homemade jam. The food was delicious and warm, with ample coffee and the service was quick. The price for the breakfast was reasonable, and they even offer free Wi-Fi. The inside atmosphere is great and the view of the bay from the restaurant is scenic and colorful. There is ample parking in front of the building. We highly recommend Philip’s Café to anyone wishing for a homemade breakfast with a view in Placentia.More

If you stay at Rosedale’s B&B the included breakfast is served here and you get to Pick from 4 standard types of breakfast - all of them wholesome and rich. Philip the Pirate is both cook and entertainer and it is hard not to feel...at home here with the fireplace going, hosts and guests talking while looking out the large panoramic windows on the harbour, water and bridge. A must stop in Placentia.More

Friendly Newfie welcome, great coffee and cappuccino, delicious fresh food and a view of the fishing fleet. What more could a camper ask for?

My mother and I are touring NFLD and staying in a different B&B every night. We stayed with Linda and Philip at Rose Manor and got breakfast at Philip's Café. WOW!!!! We had been getting pretty tired of fried foods all over the island, and...we hoping for something a little better. Mom picked the blueberry oatmeal, and I was onto the homemade granola - INCREDIBLE!!! It was so much that we couldn't finish it, and so good that we REALY tried! Homemade breads for toasts with homemade partridgeberry/rhubarb jam....I wanted to cry when I had to leave some uneaten! MUST MUST MUST have breakfast at Philip's! MUSTMore

We were looking forward to eating ay Philip’s. When we crossed the bridge, were pleased with how the building looks on the outside. We were very disappointed that we couldn’t get in because they are no longer serving meals or coffee/tea. It’s gone out of...business and the building is for sale.More

Completely worth goong there... Fascinating little video in the museum. The grounds where the fort was built overlook the open ocean and Placentia. Useful audioguide ($4 only)... Highly recommended

Philip and Linda are amazing and this bakery is too! Everything is healthy and homemade... And delicious MMM mm. We could have spent all day there chatting and eating. It is amazing that Philip, who is a world class chef and Baker can be found...in this small charming town. This is a MUST do if you are in Placentia, and I would even drive there just for Philip's!More

We stayed at Rosedale Manor, the B&B, owned by Linda and Philip. The second “B” is at Philip’s Cafe which is a short walk away. Since Linda and Philip are proprietors of both, it is a very cozy fit. The cafe is very progressive in...that they offer a sustainable menu and focus on local ingredients. It is small and comfortable with fresh baked goods and scrumptious breakfasts, prepared by Philip. The owners are present and very friendly and have close ties to the local birds - Crows, Bluejays and Seagulls. They also offer excellent types of coffees that you will enjoy. Whether or not you stay at the B&B or are just passing through, make this a stop.More
