Heron's Flight is a true anomaly with respect to New Zealand wines. A long time specialist in Italian varietals, such as Dolcetto and Montepulciano, Heron's flight takes great pride is producing age worthy wines. The day we visited, at the very end of crush, winemaker Stefano was preparing whole clusters of Dolcetto for the drying rack, the first step in... More

Well worth a visit as the wine is different to which is offered in the region and its one of the first wineries in the region.

We had a fabulous outing here. The wine is great and we talked to the winemakers and looked at the pictures of the past of the vineyard. Fascinating story. We had Pizza out on the picnic tables and it was very peacful and a lovely setting knowing your amongst beautiful vines. A romantic place for us with fond memories and... More

Popped in to taste the Italian style wines. Excellent tasting, small charge though off-set when buying, Great to meet the wine-maker. Interesting reflection, enjoyable wines.

We were going to drive into Matakana but the traffic was too heavy - we headed up the hill to Heron's Flight. Mary greeted us and offered a tasting for $5 or $10 and we had the opportunity to sit in her garden. It was such a professional and pleasant tasting I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

This vineyard features wines from Italian grapes. The owner has such great knowledge and love of wine that made the entire visit interesting before we even tasted the wines, which were superb. An original member of the Matakana wine trail for more than twenty years. If you love wine, this is a must visit.

While they no longer serve food, we came for the wine, and it was outstanding. Specializing in Italian Sangiovese and Dolcetto grapes they make only four wines - all superb. They've also been around a while (30 years) so the vines have a bit of maturity to them. We'll worth the visit.

David made this visit great. His knowledge of the Italian grape and how he has adapted his winery was very interesting, informative and given in a very engaging style. Thoroughly enjoyed this visit a second to the 5 we visited on this Coast to Coast tour. The dog wascalso nice to meet!!
