Stopped for lunch on the long drive from Christchurch. Recommended by Trip Advisor and true to that, great food and service! Definitely will go there again.

Two couples quick stop for lunch on new SH1 route since earthquake in Kaikoura. Friendly staff, enjoyed lamb shank pies with kumara mash topping and beef pie. Quick service, great food. Clean toilets.

The meals are good, what you'd expect from a mid-upmarket cafe restaurant - but the pricing was ridiculous. For a family of five - 1 x kid's meal ($8.50), plus loaded wedges $15, beef nachoes $19, and a B.L.T with fries ($16 + $3 for the fries) plus 3 small bottles of soft drink = $74.50!!! My B.L.T was just... More

We stopped here on our way to the west coast. They have great homemade pies for lunch and also cakes. We had a chicken mushroom pie and the apple cake.

We travelled Wanaka to Nelson, then return, and found Rivers Café to be our favourite lunch café by far. Firstly the cabinet food looks attractive and interesting. The chicken pie is crammed with meat and no added fillers, the portion size is really generous, same for the other meat pies and accompanied with a good tasty salad. My favourite was... More

River's Café is off of the highway through the small town of Murchison, but definitely well worth the really short detour. They have both a case of pre-made sandwiches, quiches and desserts as well as a menu for prepared hot dishes. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and their food is easily prepared for take-away. I had a chicken... More

Rivers is the best place to stop in Murchison. However the service can be slow. Good range of food and the coffee is good. They are not open all year and when they are open the close early, which is unfortunate as there is no place else in town that is any good. They tend to be busy at present... More

$14 for 1/2 a sandwich and a small wedge of so called 'muesli slice' What absolute robbery. Rivers Cafe is profiteering from Kaikouras misfortune. We have to pass thru the usually sleepy and bad serviced/infrastructured Murchison because we can no longer travel north on SH1 through beautiful and well set up Kaikoura to Nelson/ Marlborough. Rivers Cafe is trapping our... More
