We so enjoyed the first luncheon we returned two days later during our few day stay . Understand it is a 30 year plus San Antonio favorite. The recent remodeling makes it comfortable yet still authentic. The waitstaff is always present and helpful. We liked the blended menu..of traditional Mexican dishes & Tex-Mex and appreciated the waiters help in selections.... More

We came for dinner on a Sunday night. The renovated El Mirador is very nice. Nice job. We thoroughly enjoyed the great salsa and chips that they serve prior to your meal coming to the table. Don't know if because it was a Sunday evening...they only had one waiter indoors taking orders. But, he had two staff members helping him... More

This has been one of my favorite places near downtown San Antonio for the past 30 years. Unfortunately, things have changed and not for the better. About the only positive thing I can say about the "revamp" is that they have real wooden matches. The food was less than tasty, the Carne Guisada was chopped meat (not the traditional chunks... On our first day visiting San Antonio, we wanted a simple Mexican lunch to start off with. El Mirador was just that. The menu is a mix of traditional Tex-Mex and true Mexican dishes. I veer towards Mexican myself, and the more traditional flautas were excellent. My wife stuck with the Tex-Mex nachos and was a little put off by... More

We've eaten there for years but it had run into a spell were we just didn't have good experiences. Frankly, we stopped going there. Well, we just gave it another chance after it reopened from a major reconstruction. It was a very good experience. The service has improved and we both enjoyed our entree and the service was top notch.... More

This was not our first visit to El Mirador and we looked forward to their great food. We took our two grand daughters for lunch last weekend. When the girls ordered beef tacos, the waitress (Norma) was astute enough to bring a small sample of the beef before submitting the order to the kitchen because she said sometimes children do... We Ordered 2 fish entrees that were too pricey for what you got! On one of the entrees, it said "whole fried fish" on the menu, and what we got was a small piece of fried fish! When we inquired about it, the waiter said that's how the dish comes. Well, that's not what your menu reads and you need... More

My wife and I have been regulars for over 30 years, and other members of my family have frequented this establishment as well. Since they have renovated both the interior/exterior for the better, they have also made changes in the ingredients to some of our favorite dishes- not to everyone's liking. If you are new to El Mirador, then you... More

From the second we walked in, we were treated by everyone like old friends. The hostess seated us and went over favorite menu items and shared about the restaurant history and recent renovations. Likewise the server gave us great recommendations. The Costillas Reyes were braised beef short ribs that fell off the bone and had a very flavorful sauce. The... More

El Mirador has been a long time favorite of locals, especially "downtowners", but it has relatively new owners and the food is not quite what it used to be. The menu items are closer to authentic than many of the "gringo" Mexican restaurants. The best menu items are the soups, which are probably the best of any Mexican restaurant in... More
