Stayed at Gunter hotel. In town to see a show at The Majestic. Asked desk staff to recommend an authentic, good Mexican restaurant. Something not just a big chain on the river walk. She immediate said "when i eat, I go to la fonda". It's on the other side of the highway and looks sketchy getting there but once we... More

Wonderful restaurant in the neighborhoods. Away from the chaos of the Riverwalk areas. Wonderful food. Chips and salsa were the best that we've had while in San Antonio.

this is one of the oldest Mexican restaurants in SA, many people have eaten here such as John Wayne, general etc. It is a little pricey but worth it. The queso was very good and the chille relleno was exceptional. Make sure you watch out for the jallepeno's they do not remove seeds and that makes it much hotter.

Service is impeccable. Established in the 1930s, carpeted, sedate atmosphere. In addition to their version of Tex Mex, steaks etc also on the menu. Their benchmark Mexican plate is priced at $18. More expensive then comparable equal quality Tex Mex here in San Antonio where I live. Full bar. Parking across the street.

The food is upscale Tex-Mex with additional specialty dishes from Mexico. Daily specials are reasonably priced. Margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice, top-shelf tequila and prepared like ones you get in high-end restaurants in Monterrey and Mexico City The staff is excellent and as such, you see very little turn-over. They work hard, they know the menu and... More

Opened in 1932, oldest Mexican food place in San Antonio. Lots of locals. This is not a hole in the wall, but a lovely restaurant with really good food. Catch a cab from downtown if you are a tourist, enjoy great food and service in wonderful surroundings. The chips and salsa are homemade, the best! The beef enchiladas are my... More

I looked this restaurant up on Trip Advisor and noticed the positive responses. While in San Antonio we decided to visit and we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and attentive. We would recommend sitting outside. It's a beautiful setting. The food was sooooo good. We would come back again!

We love Mexican food so we searched for the best in town... this is off the beaten path in a residential area but well worth the uber ride. The food was amazing, the staff was friendly and happy to assist us in other cool places to go to dine and nightclub/ entertainment. The also have a beautiful outdoor patio for... More

Very nice respite from the Riverwalk .Short ride from downtown and very well worth it . A few problems with hostess quickly recovered into a very nice dinner under an old Live Oak Tree . My wife ordered the suiza and we fought over them . I had a carne dish all good except meat was not so tender ,... More
