Everything was excellent: location, atmosphere and service and oh yes the food. I had the Lobster Mac and even eating small bites there was at least one piece of lobster per bite and not pea sized bites either. Attentive service from Dominick L and very nicely restored, authentic interior, probably like it was 340 years ago. Along with Brick Alley... More

My first dinner at the White Horse with friends in October encouraged a second dinner w DH last night and I wasn't disappointed. This time I ordered the scallops which were very tasty if not a smudge overcooked for my taste. The lobster bisque was perfect- not all creme, but a lovely, aromatic and very "lobster-y" version with visible pieces... More

We visited Newport on a post holiday trip to see the mansions decorated for the holidays. It's a very quiet time of year so it was easy to get reservations almost anywhere that was open. We had driven by the White Horse Tavern a few times on our travels around the city as it was close to ournhotel so decided... More

While Newport may seem to be a Summertime place to visit for many, I assure you it is fabulous even in the Winter months! We visited the White Horse Tavern in very early January and it was wonderful to sit by the eight foot hearth with a cozy fire burning while enjoying a delicious lunch. The ambiance was great. This... This place is really special and perfect if you are looking for genuinely historical, romantic, cozy spot. Fine dining, great incrediants, and superb service. Small pub alongside dining room downstairs is a great place to gab a beer or cocktail. Another small bar upstairs too. Everything is good and everything is fresh. One of our long time favorites.

We were seated by the cozy fireplace and we received excellent service, an amazing meal (prepared perfectly) and the ambiance was warm and inviting on a cold December afternoon.

We have been coming here in winter for decades and feel the food is better than ever. Start by a visit to the intimate bar with a huge fireplace and maybe 10 seats and two dining tables. It feels like you are back in colonial times. We started with baked Brussel sprouts that were a big hit. My swordfish was... More

We really enjoyed our meal here! The atmosphere is nice and we were seated right by the fire during a cold day. We started with the Clam Chowder which was not really conventional New England Clam Chowder. I would give it a 4/5 as chowder goes. Our dinner entrees however were FANTASTIC. I got the chicken which was amazing. The... More

We just stopped in for drinks in the bar on one of the first super-chilly nights this winter. The bar was smaller than we anticipate, but we got the last table right in front of a beautiful roaring fire. We were told that this is one of the earliest original fires in any building in New England. The fireplace is... More

My wife and I stopped by for lunch and really enjoyed the experience. We got to sit right by the fireplace, so it was very cozy. If you enjoy historic homes this is the place for you. We tried the lobster bisque, charcuterie plate (with excellent cheese selections), and the Narraganset bay clams. They were all well prepared both in... More
