When you visit Coban, one of the first things to do is to visit El Peñascal, and try local/native food. It's just delicious. A menu with some specialties and very exotic tasteful meals you can enjoy. Kaq'Ik (turkey soup) is one of the top meals. Best place for lunch.

We tried the coban specialty but thought it was very average but the price was high. Very tasty soup with two bites of hard turkey. Did not finish the plate.

I went here specifically to try the Kaq'ik wishing it wasn't too hot. It actually didn't have any chile cobanero which originally was supposed to give the red color. Instead they do it with Achiote for the color red and you can add chile cobanero. They gave me the blood of the 'chunto' (a kind of turkey), some chocolate and... More

It's located near the Central Park of Coban, just a few meters of The Calvario Church. Food to try: Kac-Ik (turkey soup) but in Coban turkeys are known as "chuntos". Subanik is another regional dish with diferent meats in one soup: chiken, pork and beef. There was another plate, Tazajo, pork in a special hot sauce made with "chile de... More

I went hear to try Cac Ik. They serve it well with lots of accoutrements but maybe it's just not a dish for me! Was also a bit pricey. But the waiting staff were great, the food was prompt. My wife had the salad which was ok.

A must visit in Cobán, El Peñascal offers traditional food from Cobán at very reasonable prices. I had a delicious taste of the traditional Kak'iq along with tamalitos (small rice dough, steam cooked dumplings of sorts) and a pinch of the traditional Cobanero hot pepper. The dish is prepared without the hot pepper so if you are not a fan... More

The atmosphere is great with nice Marimba music on the background. The service was great and explaining all the dishes what they can serve. We had the Ka 'Ik Turkey soup. They also served many local little dishes and real chocolate drink for us to try. It is well recommended to try this restaurant.
