Utterly refreshing to find a great value plaece to eat with tasty food at sensible prices, and decent portions (as much as you can eat for 2990). We had rice, white fish in a sauce and/or chicken schnitzel plus salad, then a tasty square of traybake cake with a squirt of canned cream). My husband went back for seconds (included in price). Only one caveat- don’t go here if you want table service. It’s a canteen. However staff were very polite and friendly, and weather permitting you can sit outside with a view of the mountain. Highly recommended

We ate all you can eat for 2990 isk and the meal was much better than expected. It was some kind of sheep with roasted potatoes, veggies, and donuts with vanilia yoghurt. The quality's good, it's delicious, there's no time limit for eating, and there's free coffe in the price. The staff's was really friendly. There's even a shop inside the restaurant. I really recommend this place if you're looking for a cheap but delicious meal.

The dining room at the hotel we were staying in was booked, so they suggested the gas station across the street. We figured it would be Icelandic hot dogs and orange soda. Instead, we found a busy place with a buffet, salad bar, and ala carte menu. Think of delicious, hearty food and you’ll have the picture—we ended up going there twice. The first night, the buffet was a fish stew (actually, sort of a casserole), lamb cuts, seasoned potatoes, and a veggie medley. The second night, they had Atlantic char and sliced beef with the same sides. It’s all-you-can eat, but note that they serve you instead of you taking the portions. I think this is a way of maintaining portion control and saving food from going to waste. The food looked good and a lot of people were chowing down, but we picked burgers/fries/drink, a lamb burger for my wife and a Freysnes special beef burger for me. My god, they were delicious. Icelanders like their burgers and although I ate several during our 3 weeks in Iceland, this may have been the best: burger, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce and fried egg on top. I think it had mushrooms, too. My wife enjoyed her lamb burger and pronounced it the best she had in Iceland. By the way, we had the same burgers on our return, as we kept on thinking about them. Along with the delicious food, they had a great staff who was very friendly and joked with each other. You’ll also find a small convenience store with souvenirs.

If I'd had to put a name on those burgers they serve it would definitely be Rubber Burgers. I think that explains it all. Quick service for sure, but most likely due to fast cooking. Totally horrendous food. And why were the customers behind the food station??

When we stopped here on our tour bus and were told that we would be returning here for lunch we were a little disappointed. I was wrong to judge on first opinions. When we returned there was a great number of menu options available from burgers to lamb shanks to sandwiches all freshly made and both my husband and I were shocked! I opted for the Potato Gratin with Mushroom sauce which was around 659 sk. My husband went for the burger and fries and he said it was delicious, cooked fresh and really tasty. The food was reasonably priced and tasted great. Definitely a great place to stop off to have lunch at a reasonable price.

From the outside you wouldn't bet a euro on it, not even entering since it looks like a company canteen inside a motorway service station. But then you order and eat and… you're satisfied. Particular soup with a good flavour, good, tasty and unsalted chicken burger, accompanied by exceptional chips (little fried flavour, rare spiciness with paprika and other spices). The bill would scare 90% of Icelandic restaurants, which offer much lower quality: the two of us paid around 3000kr. Very satisfied, go there if you pass by and don't know where to eat. ////// From the outside you wouldn't bet a euro on it, not even entering since it looks like a company canteen inside a motorway service station. We had the home cooked lasagne - which was amazing. All food cooked fresh to order, wide grill menu with 2 daily home cooked specials. A great place to stop and eat after a day exploring the National Park.

1. I asked a worker for the price of the water because the place does not label their products with the price and she looked at me like I was dumb and said you can scan it to find out and rolled her eyeballs at me in a mocking way 2. I was waiting for my food to arrive, and a different lady randomly approached me and ordered me to leave and kick me out, accusing me of “loitering” while I was waiting for my food to come. She was rude, accusatory, and did not apologize. Overall: very rude staff who probably hate their lives do not come here

We had dinner here when we stayed at the Hotel Skaftafell. We opted for the burgers and fries, which were freshly made. We enjoyed it so much and the prices were good that we came back for lunch the next day. This time we had the daily special of fish with potato gratin, which was really very good. The waitress was kind enough to give us a sample portion of an Icelandic fish puree because we couldn't decide which one to order. This dish was also very tasty. There are 2 daily specials and burgers and fries. The service is quick and there are a few tables. The toilets were clean. After the meal you can buy some souvenirs or postcards - they also sell stamps. There are hot dogs for those in a hurry at the cash register. Buses also stop here for food - we were lucky that the large group had already finished and we found a seat.

Understated restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. The lamb burger was delicious and the salad plentiful (at a gas/convenient spot?!). Service was quick and friendly. Iceland has many great dining spots in unexpected locations proving fast food does not have to be the standard for traveler stops.

You’d never think what is essentially a gas station could have a staff as pleasant or a menu as tasty as this place. Located in more or less (more!) the middle of nowhere on a windswept hillside between a glacier and the sea on the southeast coast of Iceland, this place is wonderful. Fancy, no. But wonderful. Food prepared well off an order at the counter menu like Culvers then delivered to your table. At least in September 2024 you can count on a quality stop for a quick eat.

I don't eat hamburgers, even if there's a lamb inside. But I had to break the rules in expensive Iceland. Freysnes is a popular place with hotel, petrol station, souvenir shop and cheap by Icelandic standards café. They cook quite well. The hamburger is definitely tastier than at McDonald's and its fellow competitors. The service is fast. It seemed far from Reykjavik, and there were a lot of visitors.

Had dinner here, when staying at the Fosshotel near by. The grilled fish I had was great. Huge serving size with potatoes and salad. It was a nice change from the minimal choices during our travels to date. Prizes are reasonable by Icelandic standard.

Busy place but overall quite organised. We mainly ate fast food so burgers and chips. All very good, both the sandwiches and the fries. Highly recommended for lunch before seeing the glaciers! (refill top drinks)
