We were driving from Queenstown to Christchurch and stopped in Twizel for lunch and a break. We were so glad we found Poppies Café. Great lunch and good prices and a good coffee to get us back on the road was just the ticket. Hidden Gem but I do know someone who grew up in Twizel who said it's no... More

Couple of crusty fisherman rolled into Poppies for a Big Breakfast. We liked it. Not busy on the day and good service. Nice to sit out in the sunshine and fresh air and chomp through the bacon & eggs.

Poppies offers a fabulous menu with interesting options... The food is tremendous and service was great. We were not rushed and took our time eating and drinking. My partner did feel that it was quite noisy...he has difficulty hearing so the hard surfaces bounced noise about.

Hi Lisa. Thank you for your lovely review. The noise is a problem with the hard floors but we have a few ideas of how to get around it so thank... More

Poppies is a little place in town which looks like your every day restaurant. The inside is nice and comfortable and there is enough seating for small and large groups. Service is very nice and friendly. The food came out in a timely manner and tasted really good. We ordered a variation of their pasta dish and it came exactly... More

Good choice of meals and those chosen were well prepared and presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable but during peak season might be a bit busy given the number of tables. Prices were reasonable by NZ standards. Well located for travellers in this region.

Disappointed with the overcooked lamb rack, advertised as medium-rare served closers to medium-well. When asking the waitress the response was "that how it always is", thankfully we won't be down this way for a long time, it should give the waitress time to learn some manners.

We have very high standards of service and food here at Poppies cafe so I am disappointed to hear that your lamb rack was over cooked and that the issue was not dealt with. Had the Fish and Chips which was really good. Unfortunately I made the mistake of ordering a cappuccino was had a nice texture but tasted horribly. As long as you avoid the coffee you'll have a great meal.

We had the lamb rack and duck confit, the lamb we definitely the star dish, and was cooked beautifully. The vibe and feel of the cafe was more relaxed, like a done up day-time eatery which also serves fine dining in the evenings.
