We came across this place by chance and are very pleased with our choice.
"Mamangi" differs from other tourist restaurants in the area for its quality.
Main course: homemade orecchiette. Various possibilities: from orecchiette with horse pieces, to those with turnip tops and stracciatella, to those with vegetables and much more. I really appreciated the fact that you can also choose between different types of dough: normal, barley etc.
There is no shortage of appetizers and main courses.
Location top, dine admiring the alleys and shops of the historic center of Gallipoli.
Clean and friendly staff, especially the very nice Vittorio who with his professionalism and his smile knows how to pamper customers.
The two of us spent a total of €39 for 2 pasta dishes with the addition of barley flour, water and blanket.
Super recommended

We had dinner with the family attracted by the name "oretteria del centro" eager to taste typical Salento dishes. Even though we hadn't booked, we were greeted by the very polite and helpful staff. For the order, Vittorio joined us at the table and took us on a culinary journey on the orecchiette through the description of the various types to taste: normal wheat earrings (but don't say it in the presence of his grandmother otherwise the argument will break out) or the ones made with barley, very digestible, or made from burnt wheat. The orecchiette with cream and chopped pistachios with parmigiano reggiano and mortadella are the best, even those with yellow Datterino tomatoes and meatballs are delicious. In short, what can I say, all very good, seasoned with the preparation and kindness of Vittorio who took us on a journey into the past in our grandmother's culinary tradition and advised us perfectly on pairing the type of orecchiette with the various sauces available. It is possible to accompany the dishes with a decent variety of wines (glass or bottle). The prices are higher than average but it is understandable when compared to the quality of the services and dishes and the fact that it is a place in the historic center of Gallipoli.

In such a blessed vespers, myself and my honest company decided to arrest the ritual melancholy that often manifests itself when the sun goes out in the west.
Wandering aimlessly through the holiday polis, a light attracted us to a designated spot.
"Mamangi restaurant": this is how the glittering inscription of the venerable inn that delighted me and not only my palate said.
Guided inside, we sat at the sixth table, where we were soon welcomed by Vittorio and his brotherly smile.
The garçon, with a substantial belly, was quick to give advice on every single dish and his jaunty mustache stimulated a certain peckishness.
This parchment is for Vittorio,
the vassal of taste who saw us right since his sincere warning helped us spread our wings for a pilgrimage towards new palate experiences.

The food was ok, but were very surprised about the final price of the dish we ate. We chosed the meatballs and pasta dish that was supposed to be 13 eur. Then the weater told us that we should chose another pasta that was more suited for this pasta sauce but he didn't tell us this pasta cost more. Furthermore the waiter told us to add also burrata to our dish without telling us that it would cost more to the final price. In the end, instead of paying 13 eur which was the correct price from the meny, we paid instead over 22 eur. We felt the weater didn't tell us the truth from the beginning just get out more money from us. We didn't like this behaviour, so pay attention to the weater when you visit this restaurant so you don't have to pay more than you should do for a dish. Or better, chose another restaurant in Gallipoli. There are many other restaurants here that are much better to visit, with better service, more honest staff and better food

Excellent orecchiette and excellent burratine appetizer.
Unfortunately the restaurant offers nothing else acceptable, I took a second course with pieces of horse meat (only meat offered) drowned in oil. The menu does not offer vegetables.
Very slow service (between appetizer arrived immediately and orecchiette has passed an hour)
Fair prices.

The location is in the center of old Gallipoli and specializes in orecchiette!
The products are good and the portions honest.
The staff is friendly.
Unfortunately we had to wait an hour to have pasta dishes, one of which was gluten-free; waiting a few extra minutes for gluten-free is normal and understandable everywhere, but an hour is really too long!
The place wasn't even super full.
Even tables that ordered after us were served first.
It's a shame, because we ate really well and we believe there was a mix-up in the kitchen!

Great cooking class with Esterella! Two of us went to learn how to make orecchiette, and the teacher (and other people attending) could not have been more lovely. This was followed by an amazing lunch and glass of wine and a very generous offer of tiramisu too...

Stumbled onto this place walking around with our two kids and boy are we glad we did. The food was incredible and the waiter, Luca, was just about the friendliest we’ve ever encountered. The food came fast and the orecchiette was cooked to perfection. In Italy for two weeks - the food is a big reason we come here - and this was one of the best places we experienced.

We went for dinner, intrigued by the positive reviews and being highly rated on TikTok.
But…overrated!
The other guests were recommended the type of orecchiette, because depending on the type of wheat chosen, the seasoning would be enhanced. This choice was not proposed to us.
Apparently the orecchiette are not cooked and mixed in the sauce, but are cooked separately and then mixed in the sauce. The result is orecchiette that are almost anemic and floating in the sauce, which makes, although the seasoning is really very very good, an almost watery and disjointed dish. The dishes arrived in the right time, but if you ask for a menu or simply for bread, you have to wait about ten minutes.
It is certainly a restaurant run by kids, but some things need to be reviewed and speeded up on the basic elements.
If you want to eat typical orecchiette, this is not the right place. However the seasoning was very good.

Amazing! It’s our last night in Gallipoli before we head home so we wanted to eat somewhere really nice and this place is it! All the great reviews are spot and this place is definitely worth a visit. Both vegetarian and meat options are very tasty. Lots of veggie options. The staff are very nice and people were asking what we ordered since it looked so tasty. Every dish looks very yummy, even the ones unmarked as most popular. Nice wine too. Will definitely be back if we visit Gallipoli again. The waiter explained all the flavours and ingredients and had great recommendations. Favourite place we have eaten at this week!

The location of the restaurant is excellent for enjoying a walk through the alleys of old Gallipoli.
The staff, in particular Vittorio, were friendly and helpful in recommending the dishes best suited to our needs.
The quality of the food is really high and it is possible to spend a nice evening at a not excessive price, highly recommended.

We started dinner with a trio of delicious local specialties; then continuing with the orecchiette: peppers and sausage and Mamangi.
Vittorio, the waiter who followed us, advised us to take them with the barley mixture, assuring us that the barley orecchiette would improve the flavor and yield of the taste and so it was. One word: Spacers.
For dessert we took the orecchiette, a typical Apulian dessert with shortcrust pastry, custard, chocolate topping with grains on top. Spectacular!!!
Do I recommend it? Run and try it

Waited over an hour to get in. after choosing a wine recommended by the waiter, it was brought to us after the appetizers, but without glasses since they were finished. Even worse, the waiter asked who wanted to taste the wine, creating an embarrassing situation (tasting in the glass of water but also NO!). This experience was really disappointing. However, it should be noted that the restaurant offers gluten-free options and the dishes are plentiful, especially the well-cooked and seasoned orecchiette. Despite this, in my opinion, there are better alternatives considering the medium-high prices.

A phenomenal dinner, my girlfriend and I were at dinner inclined to eat some good typical local orecchiette. We were welcomed by smiling, fun and always available staff who were able to recommend dishes and ingredients to make us appreciate the culinary experience even more. The price is optimal and within everyone's reach with abundant and above all very good dishes.
I recommend this experience to everyone.

We had dinner in this restaurant chosen at random while walking in the historic center of Gallipoli and never was a more appropriate choice! The place turned out to be a very welcome surprise and we ate the best orecchiette of our entire holiday in Puglia, highly recommended by Vittorio and Daniela, true fans of their work, kind, helpful and smiling. Well done guys, you will lead the way!! (the only JOKE note we made to Vittorio: the background music by Fred Bongusto...)
