Old school pub in a quiet local near the town centre. They serve standard pub food at a reasonable price - quality of what we had was good. It was friendly enough and they kept it clean. A downside for me was having only two real ales, but maybe that will improve as we move further out of lockdown.

Visited on a Tuesday night and had the best pub meal of our week long stay in Porthmadog. All covid measures in place, but had a great atmosphere in this lovely historic pub. Food was really tasty and good value, can highly recommend the lamb steak and save some space for a delicious dessert. Staff were all so friendly, welcoming, and working so hard in these difficult conditions.

Spotless, delicious & friendly.
The cosy pub was just off the high street and looked very warm and inviting, so we decided to phone up and book for Sunday dinner and I am so glad we did as we all really enjoyed the beef Sunday roast and the jam sponge and custard was amazing. We will definitely return here next time we are in Porthmadog.

its nigh on impossible to get into a pub for food in and around porthmadog at the minute, most are not open or fully booked. we walked past the ship this afternoon and although fully booked they managed to squeeze us in, the landlady was lovely and explained that things are still far from normal , daily food deliveries are down to 3 a week due to lack of lorry drivers and numbers of customers allowed are still restricted. the food was good old traditional pub grub , was tasty, loads of it and was served quickly. strongly recommend you give it a try, steak and ale pie was huge so make sure you are hungry before ordering

Please avoid!!! After being seated, It was over 15 mins & no one had even acknowledged us never mind taking our order. Had to ask for service & it took 45 min to deliver our food which was dreadful. When asked if meal was ok by waitress & making our feelings clear, was told that ‘well everyone else likes it’
Dreadful service, rude & ignorant staff

We stayed at a nearby caravan park in our campervan and this was a recommendation. We booked in advance and were glad we did. The food was really good. Steak and ale pie was homemade and lush and the jacket potato was hot and plentiful with crunchy fresh salad.
The staff were all friendly and chatty. We booked for the next night too and they were very obliging with portion size and combinations of the standard menu.
A lovely homey friendly pub with good homemade food.

Went in for a meal - restaurant set up in Lounge we were ushered into bar, Asked to fill in piece of paper for covid told server I had registered on Q code so no need for paper record, which he clearly didn't understand. Asked what drinks they had, he had to go and ask manager, asked for menu waited 10 minutes for it to arrive. Gave up and walked out !

We had booked in advance for a table. Bit of a wait to be seen and shown to our table. Our food was good and had no problem till we left .Others not so, they had a specials board showing steaks etc and what comes with the steaks. The table next t ours ordered there food, about 10 minutes later the waitress came back and said they had run out of a certain steak. They ordered something else, then 10 minutes later she was back again saying the had run out of salad so you could only have peas. The back a couple of minutes later saying they had run out of new potatoes. Ten back 5 minutes later saying they had run out of something else. We felt so sorry for the waitress and customers. Others we could here were having the same problems. When we came to leave, we asked for the bill, no one came to take our money, so i got up and walked to find the waitress. I was told it was card only and to go and sit down. I said no one told us card only , she grabbed my money and threw towards the bar. Customer service needs improving.

My wife and I have been to The Ship many times for Sunday lunch, and it always excellent - the best in Gwynedd.
£8.95 for one course, £11.95 for two, or £14.95 for three. Bridget and Gary serve a delicious feast!
Choose from three meats, often beef, lamb or chicken (sometimes turkey). Great real ale choice too.
Highly recommended Sunday lunch. Please give me a “helpful” vote if I helped you choose an amazing Sunday lunch 😋

We arrived about 8pm and said we were a party of 6 looking for a table to eat. The woman who met us at the door was very sharp and rude and in a not very nice tone said no tables available. We asked if we could just have a drink in the bar and see if a table became available a bit later and was told NO. . No apologies or any form of customer service. I wouldn’t use this pub/restaurant in future because of the poor customer service. I wouldn’t recommend for this reason

We went for Sunday lunch. When we arrived the girl behind the bar was more interested in talking to her friend than welcoming us. We then had to wait ages for our order to be taken and then ages for the food to arrive. We both went for the beef dinner. Although the beef ok, the veg was frozen (apart from the roast potato) and the gravy was not home made. The choice of veg was odd: cauliflower, mashed swede, mashed potato, roast potato, peas, and leeks in a cheesy sauce which didn’t go with the beef at all. All in all the meal was bland and disappointing. I would not recommend this pub if you are looking for a tasty Sunday lunch.

Ardderchog.
First class.
We were looking for somewhere to eat, and we called the ship to be told that they were fully booked, but if we fancied chancing it when passing then so be it, but no guarantees.
So we phoned and phoned, loads of places, either fully booked or suffering staff shortages.
Meh, nothing to lose, let’s walk into the ship on the way past and say hello, and I’m so glad we did as they managed to fit us in!
Service is good, it’s a personal pub/restaurant for sure. Don’t expect half dozen waitresses buzzing around, it was pretty much a one man band tonight but he really had his finger on the pulse of what could be done. Diolch I ti.
Food was good, better than your usual pub grub but still decent portions.
Steak was spot on, gammon was spot on, kids meals were spot on.
Apple crumble - oh my god. Drooling.
If you’re in the area looking for a bite, try the ship, you will not be disappointed.

We had booked a table on our walking holiday in the area based on reviews and these didn’t let us down.
There was a good menu choice and the Steak and ale pie which came complete with a good choice of veg was certainly enjoyed .
The service was efficient and the atmosphere in the bar lounge was buzzing as most tables were occupied and people were coming and going , obviously a popular eating place for locals and visitors alike .

Have eaten here several times however this is the first Sunday lunch and it was delicious. Everything was hot and tasty and plenty of food. Beef was tender and lovely and the accompaniments were cooked to perfection.
Desserts-Belgian waffle and fudge cake were amazing. 2 courses for £11.95 was excellent value.
The staff have Covid measures very much under control and we will be coming back with our friends in October.
