More visitors from australia who wanted to experience a real country pub! Food was excellent - portions huge. The weather was great and the extensive landscaped gardens looking great.

Set is a small village with great views across the valley to Blackdown, the DoC serves excellent real ale and a selection of good wines from a small cosy locals bar, and very good meals throughout the restaurant and garden areas. With a terraced garden meandering around the pub up the hill, various ponds, and plenty of foliage, its easy... More

Visited on a balmy Friday evening in early April. The Duke was busy and had a lively buzz. Having booked ahead, could only get a table for 8:30. So arrived a little early to enjoy a drink outside before eating. The pub is really picturesque. It was like stepping back in time to another world. The gardens are lovely too.... More

We were taken to this restaurant last night by friends who had been here previously and enjoyed it. We were shown to a lovely table in the dining room and given menus. The first thing that struck me is that the choices were very unexciting and mainly 'cheap' food served at high-end prices - belly pork, brisket of beef, risotto,... More

Had a family lunch at the Duke of Cumberland. The pub is set in beautiful countryside with lots of lovely walks all around. The pub has 2 areas: the first is the original part of the pub with the bar and more informal seating. The second is the newer part of the building with more of a restaurant setting. For... More

This pub / restaurant has an enviable position in the hills and has a warm cosy atmosphere. The seating outside is comfortable and there are a number of covered areas with heaters. Inside the original pub is small with an open fire, but has the addition of a more modern extension at the rear where the main restaurant is. The... More

We wanted to go for a nice dog walk with a good lunch after. This is perfect place. Dog walk was a little boggy in parts and we didn't meet any other walkers just a lady and a horse! Lunch was excellent and we will return. Beautiful old pub with great service.

I called in for a drink and was tempted to have an open salt beef sandwich. Sadly it comprised mostly of salad and additions, but only one slice of salt beef and at £13.50, not good value.

A group of us met there for breakfast before heading out for the day. The service was impeccable. We had full English breakfast with all the trimmings, which really did keep us going all day !! there were seconds on the table for anyone that could eat more, the black pudding went down a treat. We were sat in the... More
