...in the pub area original with very nice local regulars and warm service.
The restaurant area quaint/nice...
Giant prawns baked in beer batter excellent.
The small fish plate...well...two cold fish salads unfortunately not good...fried fish fine.
Chef also served with...we found very good...
Always well attended.
All in all, worth a visit !

Old small bar with separate, basic, restaurant area. Walk ins only, no bookings. We had a pint while we were waiting for a table (20 minutes). Getting a table is a bit hit and miss, especially on busy evenings. Other larger parties and another couple who came in just after us had longer waits, 45 mins approx. We started with a fried brie to share, it was fine. For mains I had the Seafood platter. It was excellent, the best seafood dish I ever had, I couldn't recommend it enough. Super value (€32) also. It comes with chips which i couldnt funish as the platter is so filling. My wife had the scampi. She found the batter a bit heavy, but that's more a personal taste. If we came again, we'd probably get the sharing seafood platter (€54) and skip the starter. Good, quick, friendly service from the young staff. Don't be put off by the slightly gruff older man, just think of him as a"character".

We were told by a number of people that if we wanted great seafood we should go to The Fisherman’s bar and order their seafood platter for two. So of course our expectations were high. We weren’t disappointed - in fact I would say they delivered above and beyond what I had come to know as a traditional seafood platter in my own home country which generally consists of lots of fried seafood.
The Fisherman’s bar seafood platter consisted of lightly battered beautifully moist fresh hake, lightly battered amazing calamari rings, beautifully cooked prawns (not battered), warm crab claws AND cold scampi salad, cold smoked salmon and cold crab salad - each portion of which was presented on some brown bread. Some chips and garden salad were provided as sides. More than enough to satisfy even the hungriest.
Most important of all, absolutely delicious, reasonably priced and served in a lovely warm atmosphere.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews but this place was so disappointing and should be avoided.
Having placed my order (lobster roll) the last one I was told, I was so disappointed to receive half a bread roll with chopped salad and a small amount of lobster mixed into the salad. The price was €19
It also came with a small portion of frozen chips.
When I received my food there was a very visible dark curly 🤮 hair on top of the food.
A lovely young girl served me and when I showed her the plate she took it away. The server returned instantly to say they said they have tidied it up. I explained that just removing the hair was not acceptable. I then ordered lemon sole which was also extremely disappointing. For a fishing village you are really letting yourselves down. The table water bottle was absolutely filthy also.
I would question the reviews here, as my experience was so bad.
If you do arrive in this location looking for somewhere to eat I would highly recommend The Royal Valentia Hotel only a few minutes out the road. Serving top quality food, the fish was fresh and what you would expect from a fishing village.
The food is top quality, the portion sizes are plentiful and good value for money.

Turned up expecting a good service nice environment pub, due to all the reviews and all started quite well, nice atmosphere and a friendly host. Ordered our drinks and they came very quickly and we are thinking, wow, a nice little place to eat! Then we ordered our mains, somewhere within the change of servers we had our order dropped (or so we guessed) and we were waiting for upwards of an hour, close to 90 minutes for our food. We sat and watched patiently while other tables around us were served and pretty much finished while we waited. Only about 40 minutes into our wait did we get checked on and I presume then our order was started. A real shame because on another day or another table this could have been a lot better of an experience. Food was reasonable but not really worth how long we had to wait :(

The best restaurant I've eaten in Ireland. I took the mixed plate for two for 54 euros and it was really rich in quantity (you can easily eat 3) and quality (lots of crab claws). The fish & chips were also of excellent quality. Naturally the flavors are not those of an Italian restaurant, but it may also be due to the fact that we ate outdoors by the sea kissed by a splendid sunny day that we really enjoyed lunch!

We stopped to eat since they have tables outside in case we couldn't enter with our dog, but in the end there was no problem.
The place is in front of the port, you can park nearby on the main street with a little luck, and if the day is very good, you can eat at several tables across the street. The facilities are old, but clean and you can eat perfectly.
We ate a couple of local fish dishes for the 4 of us, which coming from Spain we expected to be seafood type, but nothing further: it was an assortment of the different fish stews that they offer on their menu, accompanied by French fries on the side. All very good.
For desserts, we shared some Lyonnaises (there were many in a simple faction).
Price, very consistent with what is offered, nothing to object to.

Extremely fresh seafood with great service. They made something off menu for one of us who had an allergy and the were very helpful. The quality of ingredients was top notch. Great selection of seafood and non-seafood items on the menu and prices were reasonable with good portions.

Many years ago I was introduced to a plate of 'Fruits de Mer' in Brittany it was indeed very special, I have enjoyed many a seafood platter in the intervening years. Last Friday, my wife and I shared a double Seafood Platter, everything was so fresh and tasty, very generous portions, we were both struggling to finish what was in front of us. To me it was the best Seafood Platter I have ever had and enjoyed.

Another great meal at the Fisherman’s. Set in the heart of the picturesque village of Port Magee the pub and its outside seating area commands spectacular views across to Valentia Island and out to the Skellig’s. Sit out on a summers evening for a sundowner or sample the freshly caught seafood this pub is renowned for you will not be disappointed. The owner keeps a great pint of Guinness together with a variety of wines & other ales. I opted for the rib eye steak, perfectly cooked, with a generous accompaniment of mushrooms, onion rings, side salad and chips. The staff guarantee a friendly Irish welcome and Jack behind the bar couldn’t have been more accommodating and likewise Johnathan. This is a locals pub and restaurant which is a good indication of the great food and service on offer. Visit the Fisherman’s and you’re certain to want to return. What are you waiting for?

There isn’t a lot of choice of dinner locations in the tiny village of Portmagee but you really can’t go wrong here.
Reasonably priced, good quality and good portion sizes of food served in amongst the locals.
Can really recommend the scampi and the chowder. Very good.

We had lunch here recently, sitting in the sun watching the boats heading to the Skelligs. Nothing fancy just beautiful fresh fish simply served and good value for money.. Friendly chatty staff and even the customers were sharing stories of their days activities. We've been here before and will be back again next year.

Unfriendly and bored staff. First they let us wait for 20 minutes and then they told us "kitchen is closed". When asked why they did not tell us so when we sat down. "I am sorry" with an expression in his face which clearly indicated how much he detests tourist.

Lunch stop our tour guide recommended to us while touring Southwestern Ireland and did not disappoint..ordered a seafood platter consisting of monkfish, crabmeat, breaded hake fish, shrimps, calamari, smoked salmon and crab claws…with chips. The seafood was noted to be very fresh and of course delicious. Service was prompt…

Disappointed with the food here. The price point is quite high for the quality matched with the food. I payed €27 for the crab legs but the portion/serving was small and served with a handful of fries. The chowder was horrific. Extremely watery as though the fish was put into a blender with little flavoring. Not worth the money and on each occasion staff behind the counters did not wear masks. This was not a comfortable or satisfying dining experience.
