Next to the Ilex restaurant and presumably being serviced by the same kitchen(?) is THE COURTYARD CAFE, We visited this place yesterday - what a disappointment !!! the queue was never ending due to the lack of staff and their poor performance. One person on the till that kept disappearing - one person making hot drinks - needed at least... More

Holker cafe is quite large , with a decent menu and specials on the board soup is always a safe bet , and a super selection of cakes , all home made not the cheapest place to eat , but the location and quality [ mostly ] make up for it , large seating area outside .

The coffee is excellent and although there are lots of dishes to chose from, my sister and I visited in the afternoon before exploring Holker Hall and gardens. We opted for a piece of Victoria sponge which was melt in the mouth delicious!!

Enjoying a delicious meal, until I bit on something which should not have been in there. Fortunately it did not break my tooth, but it appears to have been hidden somewhere within the salad. A chunk of wood apparently - see photo. The staff were most apologetic and very kindly gave us a free cup of tea to compensate for... More

Visited this restaurant for the first time this year, which is set in lovely surroundings. Have eaten here many times before as it is about half way round on one of our regular local walks. It is quite pricey and annoyingly always charges a premium for special teas. The food is of a good quality and there are usually plenty... More

Visited the cafe today whilst attending the art fair. Lovely scones & coffee but the service left a lot to be desired. It was very slow & as if the staff couldn't care less. Not one smile or pleasantry from anyone. It's also worth noting if you plan on repeat visits that the loyalty card is stamped per transaction so... More

A decent enough smart eatery. The food was fine and the quantity was sufficient - for the price. Both hot and cold foods be on offer plus many choices of cake. Service be from the counter. The service provided being courteous enough. The choice of drinks was reasonable, apart from the choice of beers - there was none ! Alcoholic... More

Popped in for a quick cup of tea and scone. Scone was good but tea was on the cold side. Not so much that it had to be sent back but I suspect the cups they used were a little on the cold side which cooled down the water. Wouldn't stop us coming again but little things mean a lot.

We are sorry that on this occasion the tea serving wasn’t quite right but we shall take the comments on board and remind our Café staff that tea is best served in a warmed cup. More

Nice surrounds and a generally good day around the hall itself, lovely gardens and house but the cafeteria service was slow. For the money spent on the meals etc as well the quality was good but quantity not so much, overall good but as the title says good day out but the cafe can do better!

Called at the cafe on a glorious sunny day, sat outside and ordered a cream tea for two. We were not disappointed! For £19.95 we had choice of sandwiches, hot drinks, delicious scones with cream and jam...as well as 3 different cakes (lemon drizzle, fruit cake and homemade shortbread biscuits). We couldn't finish the cakes so were given a 'doggy... More
