We have eaten here several times over the years and have never been disappointed. We wandered in and asked for cod, haddock and 2 x chips; the lady serving rather coldly informed us that there was no cod left. In fairness, it was approaching closing time but her demeanour made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. We enjoyed our fish and chips, they were fantastic but the service left a bad taste in the mouth.

We really enjoyed our battered sausage, chips and curry sauce from this great little place next to the station. The service was quick and the food was very good. There are some benches on the harbour where we sat and ate our lunch.

Unfortunately I think we hit a rush hour on a busy hot day. We waited a long time to order food and the queue hardly moved for about 15 mins. Despite this we had a really lovely haddock and jumbo sausage supper, worth the wait.

After waiting 50 mins to be served ( thinking this queue must go down soon) and another 15 mins to collect food, I can honestly say it was definitely NOT worth the wait. Two fish suppers were lukewarm and stale. No taste whatsoever. Do not waste your money here. I will never return

Ordered a single fish, £9. Not sure if it is locally bought, being a fishing port. The taste suggested that it had travelled some distance ( not being fresh) perhaps a local fishmonger in Fort William supplies them, hence the overpricing. I have haddock every week from my local Fishman, so I know when fish is fresh. For a fish shop in a fishing port, serving days old fish is criminal

Poor quality and expensive fish which tasted like it had been frozen and the batter was thick and gloopy. Calamari was better, but only 4 in the supper which cost £7.00. Chips were mediocre. Very surprised given the fishing village location.

Stopped for fish and chips and found as one review has already said the lady serving just wasn’t happy in her work. This was amplified when having left with our order we had to return 10mins later because she had forgot part of that order - not even an apology was offered. The food itself was good but not sure if the staff are ready to open and welcome visitors back to Mallaig after the shutdown.

Thanks for your review. I’m the owner and remember serving you as you became very angry and returned to the shop shouting without a mask as I’d forgotten to give you your mushy peas - I can only apologise again for this. During this pandemic we are down to two staff working long days, wearing masks in very hot conditions. I hope you can remember this and be a bit kinder and more understanding of those working in hospitality the next time you visit a cafe or restaurant. That said, I’m glad you enjoyed the food and hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

To be honest I could spend lots of time writing this review. Paid £9 per portion for fish and chips, which I was happy to pay due to the proximity to the sea. The fish was port quality but the batter was indescribable. I will let the photo speak for itself. It’s not for me to say where to spend your money but I for one will not be returning to this place.

Family day trip to see the steam train on Glenfinnan. I had a recommendation to go to Jaffys from someone who was from Mallaig. Took a long time to get the food, but it was so worth the wait. We weren’t in a rush and went round to the other side of the harbour in the car and took in the view whilst eating the best fish and chips we’ve had, so hot and fresh and not greasy

This chippy is the first you get to when getting off the train at Malliag, so you might expect they would be prepared for the arrival of upto 400 hungry people getting off the daily Jacobite steam train, Unfortunately they were not, A long qie formed straight away and with 1 person cooking and 1 serving, they just couldn't cope.. only 1 type of fish was available from an already limited menu, and the results were nothing to get excited about. Maybe have 1 more staff memeber then you'd have time to smile and appreciate the customers who didn't walk away

We popped in to Jaffys, on a trip to mallaig. Decided to grab a quick fish and chips, bad idea. The fish was thinner than the batter, and soaked with grease. The chips where hard and poor portion. You would think being so close to the sea and knowing that it’s what people expect of a chip shop, to at least have a decent haddock. £10.80 for a greasy fish supper is not a good advertisement for a place that relies on tourism.

We visited Jaffys for some fish n chips and whilst the food was good, the service was not so much. The lady was so dour, it made us feel uncomfortable. She was rude in her replies to simple questions and made us feel she uncomfortable. To be honest we felt like leaving the shop and asking for our money back but didn’t want to cause a scene.

Paid £6.40 for 2 portions of chips but NEVER received them. It was very annoying because we asked the server before purchasing if the chips were ready and explained that the train leaves at 2.10pm and would the chips be read in time. "Yes, they will be ready in 2 minutes". However, approximately 10 minutes later, they seemed to be serving up back orders before us, really slowly. Then the guard whistle blew so we had to leave without the chips that we had paid for. There clearly wasn't enough chips left to cover our order! Just be honest the next time, and explain you have a lot of orders waiting and/or offer a refund when you know you can't supply on time! Excellence for getting money for NOTHING!

We came off the jacobite train and most restaurants were closed! Why, you tell me? Do they want tourists evidently not! I heard all sorts of accents from around the world. Got 2 haddock and chips for a whopping £19. The chips were brick hard. The fish drippng in grease and sat at the top of our stomachs all day. Now this was taking the proverbial and cashing in without a care. Shame on you Jaffys you are representing Scotland and doing it extremely badly.

By concidence I called in just before Jacobite was due, so managed to get a rare seat and enjoy the mayhem of everybody coming in off the train. Prices a bit steep I would say but was very tasty. I was disappointed they didn't have their delicious kippers, told you can get them online, not the same..!!
