We had one of the greatest dinners here. Their new chef is not only amazing but an artist with the presentation of the food. We were two couples so tried three different dishes all of which we loved and enjoyed. The view from their patio...is beautiful and relaxing. This is a non rushed place so sit back and enjoy the food, wine and the ambiance.More

My wife and I decided to have lunch here prior to enjoying a wine tasting. Our server, while friendly enough, essentially “phoned in” our table service, average at best. Dirty appetizer plates not removed from table prior or even during the main course. We started...by sharing an appetizer, the International Dip Quartet with ‘fresh baked pita’ which was essentially four cold pieces of pita. Heated or grilled would be nice... My main was the Garlic Paprika Chicken which can only be described as dismal. A single chicken leg with tired vegetables and a product that was described as spätzle. Charging $24 for such an entree is certainly ambitious. The surroundings themselves a are quite nice with views to the north towards the river and Lillooet. Given current Covid-related restrictions, a reservation in advance may be advisable. I phoned ahead and spoke with Rolf who kindly arranged a table for us. There is definitely potential here that remains unfulfilled. Hopefully they combine the service and food to achieve that.More

Phoned ahead to check on the need for reservations for 2 on a Thursday afternoon. Half hour notice was sufficient. Quick taxi ride from The Reynolds hotel $10 approx. Outdoor seating at the winery gave a nice view of the mountain across the river. Food...was good, chicken portion small & cheap (drumstick), bread for international dip platter could’ve been heated/grilled & server was just indifferent. Although purporting to be a server in the Grand Cayman, her customer service skills were definitely lacking considering the high end clientele she is used to. Maybe they just tip high end because they can & not because she earned it. Next server who settled our bill, Brook, was so personable that we moved into the winery & did a tasting & even bought a bottle! & we only bought one as we’re riding motorcycles & there’s not a lot of room on sport bikes lol. Great wine tasting experience. It’s a must while in the area. And not just because there isn’t much to do in Lillooet.More

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Whistler. I was apprehensive at first after reading some of the earlier reviews- but was pleasantly surprised. I can see why there’s difficulty with the servers- with COVID protocols it’s hard to find out where to...sit and get some basic information. But if you do the effort to enquire it really works. We got great service- the food was delicious. Had the kebabs and charcuterie board. Picked up some wine aswell- you get a free tasting if you eat there. Stop, enjoy the lunch, and take in the gorgeous view!More

Had visited two years ago, and decided to take a few Dutch friends. I had told them of the article about this place in the book about BC vineyards. How or why they are in the book I’ll never know. The quality was very disappointing,...and frankly, embarrassing. My wife and her friend had the pesto pasta, instead of a pesto sauce it came with a cream sauce, gluing the warmed up overcooked pasta together. My friend and I had the chicken cacciatore. It was comparable to a very mediocre TV dinner, soggy rice, soggy veggies and one medium size chicken thigh. A $40 bottle of Pino Gris, two beers and four plates, including tip, makes for a overpriced lunch of just under $200. What the menu needs is sometimes fresh and modern. Salad, wraps? What’s with the beef liver on a 40C day?More

Stopped here on out way to Whistler and was disappointed. Beautiful setting and it could have been amazing but sadly their service was horrible. Waited but we're ignored and was told the tables were all reserved. Ending up sitting in the parking lot basically and...ate our lunch. All our lunches were overpriced ...and lacking flavour. Nobody came back to see how we were doing. Had to hunt fune server done for salt and pepper. For the price it was not worth stopping for lunch! Find somewhere else to eat!More

I was disappointed. I had a ‘food stamp’ burger. Kids asked for mac and cheese and got mac with slices of cheese on it, no sauce. Wife had salad, said salmon was great but salad too dry, needed dressing. Friendly staff, amazing views. Bad food...experience. Would never come back.More

Using Trip Advisor I had checked out place we could stop en route, this was our destination for lunch and we were not disappointed. Easy to find right off the main road, it was a little chilly but were given blankets to keep warm outside....We shared a cold mixed platter and then I had a rabbit soup with delicious bread, and the OH had a big Salmon Salad. I was not driving so was lucky enough to pair my food with some of the wines they recommended to have with my food. After lunch I did a wine tasting and bought a couple of bottle to enjoy during the rest of our holiday. I was really pleased to have done my research and found this place, it was the perfect pause in the drive.More

A 'sky high' THANK YOU to Dylan and staff from The Kitchen at Fort Barens Winery for planning and packing an incredible heli-picnic feast enjoyed lakeside in the beautiful high alpine meadows above the town of Lillooet. The thoughtfully prepared selection of cheeses, breads. sauces,...meats and more, complemented by a perfect bottle of Fort Berens vino, put this high-alpine anniversary celebration 'over the top'! This was definitely 'fine dining with an altitude'. Even the blankets tucked into our 'lunch box' was a thoughtful touch.More

Wow, a winery in such a small town. And this place is somewhat uplifting the atmosphere in such a little town I guess. It all breathed somewhat luxurious, but it didn't bother us in that way. The food was excellent; great tastes combined with some...good wine. We loved the view from the patio and the services was very friendly. And yes, there were chickens... but they just minded their own business. A peasantly touch was even allowed, in our consideration - a modest one :-)More

I've been to "The Kitchen" at the Fort Berens winery a handful of times. It's somewhat overpriced for Lillooet, but within reason for the type of food offered. On this occasion, I was with three friends. There was one server on duty for the patio....This server was a bit slow to take our orders, considering there were only two other tables occupied. The server got our food orders correct, but got one of our wine orders wrong. One point against. After the meal, one of my friends requested the bill. The server asked if the bill was to be one total or split. We agreed that the bill should be split. This caused some mild confusion when the server returned with our bill as she assumed we meant that the total bill was to be evenly split four ways versus individual bills. After we clarified that we meant individual bills, we let the server know we were each going to pay cash. The server took the cash from one of my friends and had to go inside the winery to get change (apparently there is no cash float on the patio). Upon her return with my friend's change, she then walked away and began attending other tables...ignoring our collective desire to pay up and leave. After several minutes of trying to get the server's attention again, we had to wait through the same process of collecting one person's cash, going inside to the winery for change, and returning to the table to do it again! In all, it took approximately 20 minutes to pay our bill. Two points against. As well, the winery management seems to have deemed it "cool" to have chickens loose on the patio! These chickens scrounge about under the tables for scraps. At one point, a chicken went under our table and...when inadvertently kicked by one of my friends, started to squabble and was about to fight back. A swift, intentional kick got the chicken out from under the table and averted a peck to leg. I wonder what the Provincial Health Authorities would say? Three points against. Not likely to return.More
