I ordered a 4 pack of cinnamon buns. They came out, STILL WARM, with amazing cream cheese icing and incredibly soft! I will definitely be getting them again! HIGH recommend.

Date of Visit: Dec 21st, 2019 A gold mine of a bakery in Madoc, Ontario We first discovered The Hidden Goldmine Bakery in February of 2019 as we were driving home from Ottawa, after the Winterlude festival. We stopped in for some butter tarts and...a coffee to include them in our #buttertartquest. This store is very large, and they have a lot of beautiful looking baked goods on display. We visited again just before Christmas, and they had many holidays treats in addition to their normal offerings. They are clearly well-known for their butter tarts as they have many tarts on display. There is a café where you can enjoy a light meal, or a sweet treat and coffee while you relax and enjoy yourself. They are also a lovely little gift shop with many great items for you to buy. Butter tarts, baked goods, and sweet treats galore. If you find yourself in the area of Madoc – Canada’s oldest gold mining town, you need to visit this little hidden treasure.More
Wonderful treats and great atmosphere and good service. It's a great addition to our little town. Well done.
Although the menu is limited for lunch it is so good. We had soup and a sandwich, both homemade. Fantastic...not cheap though. The ordering is cafeteria style, with the food served at your table when it is ready. Service is excellent and the staff is...very friendly. The decor is really fun. We could not leave without buying some butter tarts which were yummy. This is a great local/bakery cafe that every community would ideally have to break away from the Timmy's habit.More
Goldmine bakery- always an overall amazing experience. From wonderful international coffee to homemade gourmet treats, it makes for a wonderful experience while visiting the madoc area. Prices are a little steep, however the quality and taste make the amount spent worth every cent.
Walking into Hidden Goldmine is always a treat. The staff are friendly, the decor and atmosphere is warm and comfortable and your are surrounded by baked goods, treats, neat gift ideas and antiques! Their menu is a few items (sandwich, salad, soup etc) different each...day but with enough choice to suit anyone and their heart and sole goes into making each meal offering stellar! Great place to stop and stay or grab and go! You can't go in without coming out with something yummy!More
Because I attend school at Centre Hastings Secondary School right down the road from The Hidden Goldmine, I frequently visit the bakery on my lunch. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are greeted by the smell of all the delicious baked goods....Another attribute that I find appealing when visiting the goldmine is the country rustic decor. Every way you turn your head, there's something different to look at, and it just makes the experience of the bakery all that much better. An additional couple things that I enjoy about The Hidden Goldmine are the staff and the food. Not only are the staff delightful, but the food is as well. On their menu, they have everything from cookies to egg frittatas, and everything in between. Their food is a little on the pricey side, but it is definitely worth every penny. I would 100% recommend the Hidden Goldmine to anyone living in or visiting the area.More
the people there were really nice and the atmosphere was great the food there was unlike anything I've ever tasted
We stopped here to get a takeout sandwich on a road trip and were very glad we did. The sandwich was delicious and my traveling partner got a gluten-free dessert that he also said was very good. I would recommend taking the short detour off...the highway to check out this bakery.More
The ambiance is good...and the smells of home baking wafting through the air make it a good visit. The space is well presented with great period pieces and wood accents and heritage colours. I've been here a number of times and the service has ranged...from "iffy" to "so-so" to "average" to "great". It must depend on who's working that day. I have noticed too they don't like it when you ask a lot of questions. I wonder how one is to find out something if they don't ask. I saw in one of the reviews that they said the date squares are good. That's a matter of taste, I suppose, and opinion. Knowledge plays a role too. I make great date squares, this place doesn't. They aren't bad, but they are more a cookie type of pastry rather than a true date square which is mostly dates with chewy oats and a small amount of flour. These date squares are mostly thick flour, some oats and even less dates. The pies are too much flour, and too doughy. Thin out the crusts, especially the bottom crust, and add more fruit. The price already charged will more than accommodate the addition of fillings, as they are pricey to say the least. I know all bake shops charge too much for their goods, but the pies here are way overpriced. And the blueberry pie I purchased tasted like canned blueberries, blah!, with too much thickener. They don't offer anything with more fiber, like most traditional and modern bakeries do...bran, ground flax seed, Chia seeds, AND more whole grain options, with a variety of grains. It's mostly over processed, white wheat belly flours used...which belies the appearance and presentation of the place, because years ago bake shops used "real" grains in their products which contained wholesome taste, nutritious goodness and fiber of the flour. This place could offer baked goods made with non-wheat flours. It would only serve to increase sales. You don't have to say gluten-free, just wheat-free to protect yourself legally. With the added disclaimer that this is not a wheat-free facility. And what about making some baked goods which are sugar-free, using fruit as the sweetener, not artificial sweeteners? Many bake shops today do this, and have all this, including Doohers in Campbellford. Doohers makes great sugar-free raisin bran muffins, and other wonderful whole grain products. Just saying... Overall, as far as bakeries go, the Goldmine is above average, and some of their products are worth sampling.More
