What an amazing meal! They raise their own duck and beef, and also have a good variety of vegetarian and vegan options. Cauliflower “wings” were out of this world. Smoked tofu was delicious with an amazing barbecue sauce. Duck leg got rave reviews, and they were even able to make liver taste good! Service was amazing. Made to feel welcome as soon as we entered and our wait staff was very attentive and personable.

We were invited to give the Brunch a second chance by the Executive Chef Jay as his Guests. We were not disappointed the brunch was excellent. We had a window view of the lake and the piano was in front of us, the pianist played a wide range of music. Couldn't have asked for better ambiance. The brunch is an upgraded buffet, offering seafood, prime rib, pork, vegetarian choices, freshly made omelettes/crepes, eggs benedict (with soft egg), bacon, sausage, eggs, soup, various salads and cheeses. A huge selection of desserts. I thought it was a nice touch offering champagne and orange juice complimentary. If you don't want alcohol there is smoothies along with other juices. Service was excellent. We were well looked after. If you want a great meal, ambiance and good service I recommend the Elmhirst Inn.

We have been coming here for years, but now some of the sparkle has disappeared. It’s still a good Sunday brunch, but for $30 it’s not a bargain. There are fewer food choices and the complex is not as well maintained as in previous years. Staff are still great and friendly, but it seems there are fewer staff around to look after the property. Not sure we will rush back.

This resort used to provide a great buffet brunch experience in the past, but something has gone totally amiss. My extended family and I were here to celebrate the birthdays of both my mother and father in-law, as well as Easter Sunday. We were booked for a 2pm sitting and I experienced the most disappointing dining experience I’ve ever encountered. The total lack of service, timeliness and quality of the food were deplorable to say the least. It took over half an hour just to get our coffee and other beverages delivered to our table, and another 15 minutes to place our order. After sitting there for over an hour, I approached another server as our original server was no where to be seen, and inquired as to when we were going to get the breakfast pastries included in the menu offering and ask if it was possible to order another carafe of coffee. I was told it was on its way and the pastries were finally delivered to our table a few minutes later. When our meals were finally brought out to us, an hour and a half after we had arrived, the food was lukewarm at best and the quality totally inferior in comparison to previous brunches experienced here in the past. To top it off, we were then asked if we wanted our desserts to go, which absolutely stunned all of us. We (16 of us), will never return to this establishment and will absolutely not recommend it to anyone in the future. The only redeeming quality of the establishment is the view of the lake, which fortunately I can get from many other vantage point’s surrounding the lake.

We regret very much the challenges you experienced during your visit, we are aware the experience we provided you was not up to our usual standard. We apologize with utter sincerity. We are compelled to mention our front office and food service team has taken more than 1 phone call to listen to feedback as well as receiving email about it. We added value at the time of service, we have taken direct action to address the challenges experienced during your visit, and communicated all of this in a very open way with apologies and more value adds to the matron of the family. This is 1 of 3 postings from a single restaurant reservation on our Resort page and restaurant page. Our biased opinion is the reaction might be a bit excessive. With respect,

The view will make your food and wine taste better. Joke! But it will certainly make your experiencee a bit nicer with Rice lake awesome view from the resort. We went for a late lunch and everything on our plates were great... I cannot remember what we had (3 of us) but we all loved it. The service was also very good, I would definitely go back again, Worth going to for sure, can't wait to go at dinner, maybe next time to try their pub (The Wild Blue Yonder Pub & Patio).

Now we have been to this buffet lunch many times before and would normally come 7/8 times through the summer but in this occasion we were surprised and disappointed. Firstly we were surprised by the lack of people, normally it’s a lot busier and at first I couldn’t understand why but the discussion around the table changed to the lack of choice - NOT the amount of food, that was plenty but the few choices, particularly in salad. Now I understand full well business practices, and putting too much food is a waste, however smaller portions and more choice would work out the same in cost.. Normally you would have provided a fish prawn crab type salad, that not there along with a few other salad choices. Also normally a choice of two meats, now only one sliced meat. Sliced tomato with feta cheese sprinkled on does not cut it for the main salad! A number of our group suggested writing to you and letting you know, as if no one says anything how can you fix anything?? Is this now your ‘standard’ for the buffet lunches or is this just a one off? For just over $20.00 each we were all disappointed..!! I took the opportunity to email Elmhirst regarding this, but did not expect them to admit that they had reduced the amount of food to cut costs...!! Perhaps that is why you are getting ‘less customers’..??? Reply from resort “We try and prepare a variety of items each week to give as much as choice as possible for our guests. Due to the across the board increases in food and staffing costs in recent months we've found it necessary to be more prudent in our menu selections to maintain a viable and sustainable service for our longstanding and loyal customers”.. Being more ‘prudent’ is a short term saving / not a long term business strategy! Our group is between 5 and 20 people strong and they have all expressed to try somewhere else!! Poor show and poor response guys!!

Recently, four of us enjoyed lunch here. The view is lovely, the room was nicely decorated and the food was great. The liver and onion dinner was popular with two at our table. I must say, the mashed potatoes looked very yummy. I selected a vegetarian option, which I liked except for the fries. There was nothing wrong with the fries, just a personal preference, I’d rather have had a coleslaw or some crunchy veggies. The fish and chips looked very good. We passed on dessert. Our server did a very good job. We wondered why there was a bread and butter plate and knife at each setting when we were not served rolls or bread and she said they were not offered at lunch. She quickly went and found some though which was thoughtful. We will definitely come back.

We have been there before and returned. Unfortunately not for the great coffee. The food was not hot, not attractive and not very appetizing. Piano music was great! I'm not sure if I'll return.

Service was very slow! Overpriced for what you got. Very bland meal and small portions, only protein no vegetables, no starch. Not impressed at all. Would not recommend.

Hello Bonnie, I'm sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience with us. We value for feedback and I'm aware we had a strained meal service on the night of your visit. We are introducing some new team members to our operation and we learned some valuable lessons from that night. I have complete confidence in their ability to take those lessons and improve the experience for our guests. They have a great quantity and range of talent to share and are ready to do it. I hope we have the opportunity to be of service to you again in the future and that you ask for me directly so I have a chance to show you we value your feedback. Have a great Canada 150 summer....

It's really too bad. The location on the lake is beautiful, but the food and service - just terrible. I was never offered tea or coffee. Our plates were never cleared from our table so we just stacked them up. My kids went to get a glass of juice at the juice table and there were no glasses. I asked a server where I could find glasses and they said, "oh, just wait a minute and they will replenish." - didn't happen. The food was terrible and sub-par. We love to go out for brunch as a family but this place is a huge disappointment. Don't waste your money.

Hello and thanks Nogal for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear you didn't find good value in your brunch experience. I personally inspected the Father's Day Brunch service several times from the first seating to the latest and have to say your feedback was a bit of a surprise. We had a full staff complement in the dining room overseen by our Foodservice Manager and 2 experienced service supervisors. There was a fully staffed kitchen team as well. After most meal services there is a brief follow up meeting with the whole team to see if there were any important lessons from the service to make service better next time. We congratulated the servers because we believed they had been doing a great job of staying on the floor with the guests, clearing tables, and providing calm and friendly service in a busy environment. They also continued this right through the end of the latest seating according to our observations. Every guest gets the opportunity to fill out a comment card and service above expectations was reflected in all the feedback we received. Of course this is not to say your feedback isn't valuable. Demand for Father's Day Brunch is very high and each table will be used more than 1 time. We don't raise the price or shorten the time on the table available to each guest but we do add 1 seating. Its possible some service team members were engaged re-setting table for new arrivals for a period of time. Brunch also has a carving station, salad and seafood tables, a breakfast item table, baking, desserts and made to order omelettes and crepes. Occasionally the supplies run low in an isolated location but there are many more items to choose from while its replenished. Guest feed back on the food we presented at Sunday Brunch was also very positive. Nevertheless better is always possible and we will continue to try and find ways to add value to our brunch experience. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you have a great Canada 150 summer....

This is our favourite restaurant in the Peterborough region. On winter nights, there's a welcoming log fire in the hearth; in summer you have a view over Rice Lake and its islands. The menu offers variety to suit the adventurous as well as the more traditional palate and almost all the beef, chicken, pork, duck and turkey served is produced on the neighbouring farm or sourced locally. The dishes are delicious, the service first class and the wines are all local either from the Niagara Region or from Prince Edward County. For dessert, try Mary-Bell's wild rice pudding!

We had a reservation for four on a Saturday evening at 7 o'clock. The restaurant was quite busy and after being seated we were ignored for ten minutes. When the server finally acknowledged us she handed us the dinner menus but no wine list. After getting the servers attention (she whizzed right by our table several times) we asked for a wine list. Anticipating that we'd be ignored for another ten minutes when ordering our wine we ordered our dinner as well. About 20 minutes or so after we had ordered our meals we were asked to move to another table to accommodate a party of 9 that were coming in. There was an empty table beside us and so they wanted to combine our table with that one for them. We were quite comfortable where we were, but reluctantly said OK. For that inconvenience we received a "Thank you." Three of us ordered the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce; the fourth ordered the lamb special (ground lamb stuffed in peppers). Steaks were cooked to order, but quite small and very thick and sat atop about one tablespoon of peppercorn sauce. All of us had asked for the sauce on the side but that was forgotten. The baked potato with the steak was very bland and rather moist. About 6 bites of overcooked turnip, carrot, squash and beets accompanied the steak. (Although one of us did not receive any beets.) The plate was very unappetizing and rather empty looking. The lamb was edible, but it would just be wrong to call it "special." After receiving our meals we were ignored. We were not asked if we'd like anything more to drink and our water glasses were not refilled. We did ask the server for more sauce as our steaks were a bit chewy and dry; we did receive a very small container of extra sauce about ten minutes later. When we were asked if we'd like dessert, we all declined. We all wondered if maybe they'd offer a complimentary dessert, but no. Service, food and ambience was very disappointing.
