About
The Rock Restaurant, in Michamvi Pingwe on Zanzibar Island, is an extraordinary restaurant, located in a unique position, on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The contrast of the unspoiled natural setting, down played decor and design vs the international standard food preparation and presentation is as novel and rewarding as its location. Serving up to 14 tables, all facing a wonderful terrace on the Ocean, the restaurant is connected to the mainland by boat, within high tide, and reachable by foot within low tide. It is also easy reachable by sea if coming by boat from an excursion. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or for a memorable evening with friends or family, it is open

Please save yourself some money and do not eat here. I went in with very low exceptions since this is such a popular place but it was worse than I thought. The location and view are great. The owner is italian, he should be ashamed...of serving such low quality food and at a very high price. The fish carpaccio was almost inedible, crazy given that we are in Zanzibar and this place is full of delicious fresh fish. The lobster pasta tasted like hospital food. I really am not exaggerating. I rather get street food in Stone Town than spend 50$ pp and eat here again.More

This restaurant is built on a large rock, just off the beach. My partner was really looking forward to visiting it. We even took a $100+ taxi ride from Stonetown to get here. We visited in early March. This may be seasonal, but the restaurant...was surrounded by loads of sea grass. You can walk to the restaurant but at lunchtime, there was a foot of water and sea grass we had to wade through to get there. The food was average. People clearly come here for the views and the reputation. The beef filet and the crab spaghetti were excellent. The starters (fish carpaccio and octopus salad) were OK. The dessert, Zanzibar vanilla ice cream and a flambed pineapple, was good. The service was a bit slow / spotty because they didn't have enough staff for how busy it was, even during COVID.More

It is my sixt visit to this restaurant in a number of years, and it is always an experience that is worth the trip. The atmosphere is very unique, a mix of chilled combined with high standard of service considering that you are literally on...a small Rock. Waiting time for food and service in general reflect European high standard. Always suggest to start with The Rock Special, and then decide which other speciality you wish to try. Don’t miss a Moscow Mule on the terrace for your deserved selfie! A special thanks to Reddy, the Restaurant Manager, for making this experience every time so special.More

If the tide is low you can walk, if it is high there is a small boat, don’t worry about the tide. If you go for dinner you need a reservation usually, unless it’s not busy due to COVID.
