Called at the Canal Turn today approximately 2.00 pm whilst walking on the Canal. My husband bought 2 pints of guest draft Cider. On sipping my drink I was nauseated with the taste. It tasted sour and very bitter. I told my husband I wasn't drinking such a vile drink. My husband tried his drink and was unable to drink... More

Hi the Houghtons Well, I do usually try to be diplomatic in my responses, but this post is so devoid of any perspective I'm going to be blunt and I'll start with a question: are your lives so empty you need to get so wound-up over a drink you didn't like because, lets be frank, that's all it boils down... Returned to the canal turn again, this time for the Sunday roast. It was delicious and well presented and great value for money we got a whole lamb shank with mustard mash. The canal turn is our favourite pub for meals with great ambience and excellent service from staff every time. Will come again soon.

Do not have Sunday lunch here at 13.95 rip off, quality poor and quantity small. Cutlery not clean to , will not call again!!!!

MarcusCanalTurn, Owner at The Canal Turn, responded to this review

Hi Darren I am at a loss here as the quantity on our roasts is not small. We offered three types yesterday, a WHOLE lambshank, HALF a Cumbrian chicken (breast, thigh and drumstick) and a WHOLE glazed ham shank for two to share, the latter being just £19.95. All are locally sourced and anything but poor in quality, quite the... More

Had a catch up meal with friends here one evening. The waitresses and bar staff were very attentive and polite. We were seen to in a timely fashion and our food was of amicable size and taste. However it made me feel abit queezy after my meal seeing dogs around the kitchen area that were being petted by the staff!

MarcusCanalTurn, Owner at The Canal Turn, responded to this review

Hi Richard Firstly, dogs are not allowed in the kitchen area. There is a clear dividing line between the kitchen door and pub which dogs do not cross. Just inside said door is a sink with sanitser soap. Any time a member of staff pets a dog they are trained and know to wash their hands. We are admittedly a... More

Have eaten here many times now and never had a bad meal yet. Steak night 2 steaks and a bottle of wine £25 is our favourite at the moment. Steaks are cooked well and melted on the tongue, really tasty, the chips are not hand cut but for the price you cant complain, service is excellent the owner is very... More

Hi Andrew Thanks so much for the kind words regarding the majority of your meal, not least the quality of our sourcing, which we do take very seriously indeed. In defense of our chips... Well, they're a subjective thing are chips. Ours are not oven chips, they're what's called a 14x14 skin-on, the numbers referencing their width in mm. We've... More

Great people, great food, great views, busy in the evening and at weekends, but well worth the visit, you can come by car or boat and enjoy this lovely place day or night.

Popped in here for a midweek dinner. What a great pub! Food was lovely and plenty of it! We had Fish & Chips, chilli dog and a children's meal. I would definitely recommend it! The only thing that annoyed me was one of the bar/waitresses. I was deciding where to sit and ordering my drinks at the same time and... More

We had the Sunday lunch and both opted for beef, It was like trying to chew an old boot! The menu showed it was served with peas and carrots. As I don't like peas i asked if they could leave the peas off mine but they didn't bring me any carrots either When we finished our meal we waited for... More
