Found this place when wandering around Chiusdino! What a brilliant find! The staff were so friendly and attentive, they spoke perfect English. The food was amazing and so fresh! We had the meat and cheese plate to start which was a little of everything to try, I've never tried such fresh olives! I had Spinach gnocchi which was so tasty,... More

Whilst visiting the San Galgano Museum in Chiusidino, we stumbled across this little gem looking for lunch. The daughter of the owner was so passionate about the food, and was very theatrical when describing how it was to be prepared. The dishes we chose were out of this world and without question it was the highlight of the trip to... More

While walking in Chiusdino we came across this restaurant hidden away in one of the narrow streets. we were immediately greeted warmly and shown to a table where were were given menus to make our choice. While waiting for our food we even had a quick look through an interesting array of books in a small library - but we... More

Excellent food, wonderful host and an amazing setting! Had the steak dish. Ask for it well done. They like their meats raw in Italy.

One of the best restaurants in the area, interesting presentation of meals, although could the size of the dishes could be a little bit bigger comparing with other restaurants in the area :) the best thing is that restaurant is located in grotta (cave) in very cute and small Tuscan village called Chiusdino, so i think it could be unique... The Tiburzi is named after a local folk hero/villain (Take your pick). It's located in one of the many low-ceilinged cellars in the beautiful fortified town of Chiusdno. The family who run the restaurant maintain high standards of service in the restaurant. The menu reflects the culinary traditions of the region. The food is well-prepared and reasonably priced. The house... More

Description
The "Grotta di Tiburzi" is a small Wine Bar Restaurant run by Mariangela and her daughters Bianca and Ada.
It lies in the historical center of the medieval small town of Chiusdino (Siena) within easy reach of the Romanesque Abbey of Montesiepi and of the Cistercien Cathedral of San Galgano.
Galgano Guidotti was born in Chiusdino where his home, turned into a chapel nowadays, can be visited.
Chiusdino is perched on a small hill overlooking the "Alta Val di Merse", an age-old route through the "Colline Metallifere" leading from Siena to Massa Marittima and the nearly Maremma, once a land of malaria and bandits.
The management therefore has rightly chosen to call the restaurant for the bandit's name.
The restaurant which is located in Via Paolo Mascagni n.15, Consists of three distinct rooms adorned with structures and decorations typically medieval, such as arches vaults and settling tanks for water storage, besides a natural cave with even temperature.
The rooms were once used as a distillery until the mid-1900, nowadays however they can sit up to 25/30 guests around wooden and marble tables.
A cosy homely atmosphere welcomes you to enjoy the typical Senese cooking, still firmly bound to tradition and to taste some excellent red wines, such as "Chianti", "Brunello di Montalcino" and "Nobile di Montepulciano".
