The place located practically on the beach is very pretty, only flaw the strong wind that occasionally makes paper towels fly. We ate 2 very hearty and tasty Greek salads, but for my taste with excessive onion, and two appetizers (a plate of zucchini croquettes and one of tzatziki, but unfortunately they had no pita but only bread). At the end of the meal we were even offered slices of watermelon.
Overall the meal was very pleasant and the service great, also the value for money leaves nothing to be desired (€26 with even a large bottle of water). The only drawback, the fact that the table did not have a placemat unlike those that were right on the sand, but otherwise is more than fine

Very good diner in an amazing restaurant next to the sea. I ordered a grilled squid and it was tender and tasty. We paid about 20 euros each which considering the location it is great value for money. Service was very good too, friendly and attentive.

Went there for lunch, the price/performance ratio was absolutely right. Great view of the bay on the first floor. The chef recommended the fish platter and we ordered it. Absolutely fantastic. Very rich and varied in taste, a dream... 😋. Can definitely be recommended.

What can I say... the splendid view and the discovery of Matala was very convincing but then if you plan to enjoy this place... move on... If you like frozen food, no specialties or flavor in the mouth... the kebab, the pita of corner would have done the trick without puns... I had a special pizza, strange even to say it... a mix between Marie and sodébo! Having been in this environment myself for 12 years, I said to myself when I saw this, the cook has lost his liver or never had it! my wife had pulled pork meat no taste no flavor. The positive point the environment the view of the beach But that’s free… the price is really excessive to eat dog food! I am extremely disappointed, I would no longer trust the restaurant by the sea! tourist trap, that’s fair to say! run away ! even the boss when paying was very unpleasant and rude! if you want to eat in Matala don’t go to this address…

Beautiful location, terrace overlooking the sea: the only positive note of our visit.
We were in Matala for a day at the beach and stopped in this tavern for lunch.
Mediocre food: mixed fried greasy fish, the only positive note was the "bruschetta" with feta and tomato.
The staff (on the terrace), a gentleman in his 60s, was rude and rude.
He was visibly annoyed by our presence, we received the explanation shortly after: speaking with other customers in English (who were served promptly and with a smile on their faces) probably convinced that we did not understand the language, he said verbatim "Italian and French .. the worst tourists”
Now... we don't know the reason for this contempt towards us, but perhaps we should be careful before speaking in the belief that we are not understood: unfortunately or fortunately, we all understand English more or less.
In summary: if you are Italian, don't go there, we Italians are used to a very different type of courtesy and quality of food that you certainly won't find in this tavern.
Price above the Cretan average (based on what we spent on other days).
There are many other taverns, always on the seashore, which will certainly be able to welcome you better.

Owner very kind and affable, the view is superb, with excellent views of the sea and caves. Do not be discouraged by the menu with images, typically tourist, especially the proposals of the day are very good. The fish main course for two is rich and tasty, definitely worth the price. Good wine.
Bonus: Kittens come looking for some scraps of meat or bone.
So far the best lunch in Crete.

With the promise of a beautiful sunset during dinner we entered this restaurant on the waterfront in Matala.
Unfortunately no sunset, only clouds and the food could be just a little better.
Fish soup, Dako’s and twice grilled Swordfish, none of these dishes could really please us unfortunately.

You enter a restaurant which is actually a terrace overlooking the sea and this honestly puts you in a good mood. Everything is very simple but the view is pleasant. Too bad we came to a restaurant to eat. The starters were also passable but nothing special. You just couldn't eat the fish. Squid that no one knows where they got them. Tasteless fried fish. My friend also vomited her soul during the night. I think people get caught up in the sight and don't evaluate food for what it is
Clearly for the food one dot goes up to two for the position

I had dinner here the first night. Beautiful view of Matala beach. Restaurant without much pretension but the view pays off. The food was normal, without infamy and without praise. I had an appetizer (a local cream cheese) a briam as a main course and a quatrain of wine. Sweet and raki offered. Spend 17 euros. So average for clay while Matala is on average more expensive.

It was OK. Service was friendly. Portions were much too small though. We had sardines and squid for 9.50 and 10.50. We weren't full. It was too expensive and the taste was nothing special. The view was nice though. We wouldn't come again though.

This restaurant had a lovely view over the bay. The meze was nice but it would have been nice to have seen that pitta bread could be ordered rather than the complimentary bread, which was nice. Good value local wine. The waiter was very stressed and moaned about payment by card but apart from that a pleasant lunch.

First impression was quite good due to the panorama and landscape visible from the terrace.
Unfortunately food quality is super bad, frozen squid, small quantity , minimalist presentation but excessive price.
I don’t recommend this place at all, I’m pretty sure you could fine a better place even if the food was prepared on a car park.

We had another restaurnat in mind when visiting Matala, but with that closed we wandered about the many other options before heading in to Alexis Zorbas. It was relatively busy and we had a 5 minute wait for a table at about 9:30pm after the sunset, so had a quick stroll on the beach. On our return we were given a table upstairs away from the beach, but still with a great view of the colourfull sky. No photos for you I'm afraid as we'd have been photographing people having their meals to get one, but the memory of it will be reatined for years to come.
We didn't have a huge meal; tzatziki, garlic bread, baked feta, fried corgettes, a kebab (which was actually 3 and was great!) , and a pizza. With the excpetion of the pizza it was all lovely, and the pizza still disappeared despite not getting a resounding "best ever" from the recipient.
There are lots of places to try in Matala, but I would have no issue in recommending here as it kept all the ambience of the area without having a band playing loudly and in you face as you dine.

My husband and I had Souvlaki and fresh orange juice. The chicken was moist and delicious. The serving size was perfect. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed. The service was lovely. Definitely worth a go.

It has good views of the beach and the food is good. Slow service between first courses and fish seconds. Acceptable quality-price ratio, neither cheap nor expensive, small portions for the former, and normal for the fish. The best are the grilled squid and sardines. There is no longer a custom to invite a fruit or a liquor, at least with us they didn't do it.
For the good quality, quantity and price that there is in Greece, it is only worth highlighting that its location only stands out because it is on the beachfront.
