One dinner here on a Saturday night. Ordered off the well appointed menu and food was delivered in about 5 minutes, piping hot. Was very tasty and fair value for money. Service was excellent and place was busy. Always a good sign.

So when people go provincial NZ for a meal at a restaurant, the experience is so varied for seasoned travellers. Here is a gold nugget! The menu has good honest food. No fancy pants stuff but well made, a huge variety and great presentation. Total value for money. The group had Prawn Cocktail, Calamari and Mussel entrees which were stunning.... More

Thanks very much for your comments. We would like to stock some good NZ craft beer but getting a reliable supply into Turangi is proving to be a little difficult so for the moment we're sticking with the available big brands. More

This restaurant on State Highway 1is very easy to pass by without realising there is a great little restaurant right by the bridge heading North. We won't be passing by again without stopping. There is a great menu to suit all tastes. The seventies style prawn cocktail was great as was the venison salad. My daughter had the fish of... More

Sorry you missed out on the Goat Curry. It was very tasty I can tell you. We do have plans to upgrade the visibility from the road situation so hopefully we will become more noticeable soon. More

There isn't a lot of choice In Turangi for an evening meal but this place was very good. Generous portions. We had a sharing plate one time & fish & chips and lamb shank the other. They do close quite early

Thanks for your comments. Yes we agree, we do close quite early at this time of year we take last orders at 8pm but will stay open later if it is busy. Experience in Turangi has taught us that most people are in and order before 8pm as they generally are up and about early in the morning so late... More

We were staying in Turangi as we were doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We went to this restaurant for dinner the night before on recommendation from the host of the lodge we were staying at. The decor is a bit tired, but there was a large selection of food. When I ordered, the server wasn't sure which dish I was... More

There's certainly nothing modern and "citified" about our decor but we prefer to call it rustic rather than "tired" and it fits well with the Turangi experience. The vast majority of our customers comment favourably on the decor but we realise it can't be to everyones taste. Also Chef advises under seasoning is far preferred to over seasoning and we... More

We visited without reservations. The food selections were very good. Lamb shank and fish of the day were excellent and reasonably priced. Beer and wine was also reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend the restaurant.

Popped in for a beer after a day on the river, good choice of beers and cider. The menu looked good as did the plates of food coming out to surrounding tables. Unfortunately didn't have time to stop for a meal.

Went for tea with the family here on a rainy evening. It was great! My volcano obsessed son loved looking at the really awesome 3D map on the wall which I really wish I'd taken a picture of. The service was fast and friendly and was served quickly. Thank you for making a special dish for my fussy daughter! When... More

We had fish n chips as the restaurant was closed but they opened for 3 of us which was great.. fish we didn't like wine nice.. bill for 1 class each & fish n chips $96.. over priced.. staff friendly just ashame on the fish n chips..

We must respectfully disagree as $24.50 for our fish & chip dish is not expensive and is exactly as was specified on the menu before you ordered it. $33 for a glass of wine ($8.50) and our fish and chip meal is excellent value for money though yes it is more than you would pay at a fish and chip... A pre new year meal with family. The menu had great options as two were celiac and one vegetarian. Portion sizes were generous and staff went out of their way to accomodate our needs. Decor dated but everything else made up for it. Main prices were around late $20-$35, the quality of the good matched well. Will go again. Thanks... More
