The last post is now closed. It is now the new venue for The Dubliner Irish bar and restaurant and has been refurbished. The Dubliner specialises in contemporary Irish quisine and great Craic !

Margarita's need work - no sweetness no salt around edge of glass. Food fine but not up to my Mexican standards. Please stop waitresses walking around with pine o clean in hand spraying tables. When eating that spray is not welcome!

Margaritas need help. They should taste sweet and they should have a rim of salt. Apparently I wasn't the first to inform them of this - well fix it!!! Food ok. In all a bit disappointed. Not Mexican for me.

Mexican food was our desire and the Last Post Cafe sated our desires perfectly. There was not a huge range but enough choice. The serving sizes were generous and the food was well presented. Not too spicy or too plain the food was delicious. Open fire was a delight too.

After a last minute booking (which was needed), we had a great meal of a mixture of mains and tapas. Both went down very well with a mix of flavours and styles. The food was great and the drinks menu was a little different with the addition of some small brewed mexican beers. The service was friendly and easy going.... More

As a regular visitor to Methven, I recommend stopping at the last post café. Staff are always friendly, wine, beer range and the bar tender cocktails make this little space a must.

Fancied something different for a quick meal, and ordered the tapas. Food wasn't quick but it was tasty and relatively filling. Waitress was helpful and quick. Must have been a record pint pour. Both drinks at the table within a minute of ordering! Left satisfied so I'd certainly recommend.

We were recommended here by the team at Big Als and it was perfect. The service was outstanding, quick, efficient and friendly. The menu is no fuss Mexican, just good food, not too pricey and delicious. Lovely atmosphere with roaring fire. Family friendly, but not obtrusive if you are a couple. The margueritas were the best we have ever had... More

We always make sure we fit a dinner in at the last post when at Mt Hutt. Great range of beer on tap before dinner, with fantastic range of tappas available. The wine list is smart, with Australian shiraz and NZ pinot. The raging fire adds the final touch on a cold Methven evening.

A wonderful selection of quite reasonably priced fsh & chps cooked by people who seem to know what they are doing with excellent blues music in the background.
