This was our first visit to this very cosy, friendly and welcoming pub. As real ale specialist, I was impressed by the barmaid's enthusiastic and knowledgeable approach to offering ale tasters. Attentive staff brought excellent Open steak sandwiches with a good salad and proper chips. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Really nice atmosphere and interesting... More

Ate dinner here on a Friday evening. Busy but not crowded. Helpful staff found us a table in the window. Enjoyed goats cheese starters and prawn cocktail. Beef pie was lovely, as was beef and merlot. Reasonably priced - about £20 each with drinks. Would go again.

We came here last year for a friend's birthday lunch/afternoon. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all, the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. This is well worth a visit.

The Black Bear is very atmospheric. Fresh flowers on the tables and windowsills. Very varied menu - excellent service - hot food nicely presented.

Small cosy oub with great character. Was nice and warm inside. I had the beef pie which as suggested by the waitress, was a great call. It was so good, the beef was tender in a dark rich gravy. Desert was also great, one of us had the ginger pudding and the other the brownie. Both great. Would definitely go... More

Called in on Sunday on chance and got the last table. Food was lovely - homemade pie, and a lovely smoked fish gratin. All was piping hot. The service from the young staff was very good, and service was nice and fast considering how busy it was. Will definitely be back. Great beer and cider too.

Stumbled across this one and how lucky we were! FAB local Beers and fantastic Pub Grub Menu but much better than the norm! Hate the term gastro pub but this is on the same wave length but full of local charm! Great attentive service has to be a pub to return to!
