The food was horrible! The fries were soggy and seemed microwaved, same for the coconut shrimp. Find another place, it’s not worth the money.

This is an amazing oasis for the whole family as well as the business traveller. I have been coming here since 2004 and it has evolved from a sleepy oceanside cantina to a 5 star restaurant that rivals some of the best in Merida. All...the staff have a specific job and all are attentive to your every need. I moved 3 times one afternoon and they smiled and helped me carry my computers! After dipping your toes in the warm clear ocean one can sit directly on the playa under an umbrella or you can choose to savor your meal inside the huge palapa. Live music is sometimes playing nut what makes this place special is THE FRESH SEAFOOD!!!More

They discriminate against mexicans. I invite to foreign tourists: please do not consume in La Palapa, give support to Mexicans. They pretend to change the name, so new administration is doing things wrong. I was there in January 2023 for the fifth time, but this...time I went with all my family including parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. We are Mexicans from Querétaro, but we love Yucatán. In La Palapa they suggested we are no the public they want to have. So they tell us the minimum check per person was $400 MXN, we accepted, but in addition of that, they forbade to keep there for more of two hours even if we pretend to follow consuming. I have to say I saw many foreigners who stayed there for more than 4 hours.More

In small Celestun, this is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious lunch on the beach. Friendly service, normal and acceptable prices, good seating comfort and of course a beautiful view!

A lot of seafood offerings on the menu. I wanted to try the deep fried octopus, but deep fried in Mexico doesn’t mean with the crust, it means they dunk the octopus into hot oil and then pull it out. Now the flavor is good,...but it’s a little too crunchy for my taste. The restaurant is right on the beach so you can have your feet in the sand while you’re looking at the ocean under a Palapa.More

While staying at Celestun we tried a few restaurants and felt that La Palapa was the best spot for dinner on the beach (we recommend El Lobo in town for pizza, plus breakfast or Dolphin - see my other reviews). The combination of beach sunsets,...great service, a varied menu, fresh caught seafood and reasonable prices cannot be beat (everything in Mexico is so inexpensive, so honestly I don't understand why anyone really complains about prices anywhere). You have the choice to dine inside or out and the whole place had such great vibes and friendly staff. As a vegetarian, I could not eat any seafood, but my boyfriend loved his meals and for me, the guacamole was outstanding and with chips, a meal unto itself. Try La Palapa and enjoy a great time! Before dinner, you can stroll along the beach, collect seashells, swim...then eat and watch the sunset...what a lovely way to spend an evening.More

We were brought here by our tour guide, my wife being a sometimes flexible vegetarian had a fish dish. Her opinion is that the catch of the day was yummy, well cooked and a generous portion. Myself, as a stricter vegetarian only had French fries...as an option, however after a conversation with the waitress they adapted one of their pasta dishes for me (and charged less).More

The flavor is not good enough for the price. If you want to spend more time in here, is not the best option for it. You literally have to get continuous consumption otherwise the restaurant rules are that you need to leave. My mother ask...for a piña colada and they "forgot" to put some alcohol on it. NOT A GOOD OPTION, IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO STAY MORE THAN 2 HOURS.More

Restaurant right by the beach in the small town of Celestun and I was pleasantly surprised. Adrián was our waiter and he gave us great service. Besides the beautiful seaside view the food was excellent. I had the one of them best lobsters I’ve ever...had and my wife had a delicious shrimp.More

Hello All: First, my Espanol is not up to speed after a 6 yr hiatus from traveling to Mexico. Secondly, I am not familia with the Yucatan or their customs compared to many years of visitation to Oaxaca State specifically Huatulco and Puerto Angel to...Mazunte beach areas. Thirdly: I am a widow who often travels alone and feel comfortable with challenges especially in Mexico where a woman alone is often viewed with suspicion. Fourthly: I am not a young chica but 67 yrs young. I arrived and entered the restaurant at 11 am when it was said that they were open. Apparently, not on Sunday rather 11:30. I then went down the road to the lagoon to view a flock of flamingos I saw traveling to the beach area and photographed them speaking to a couple with a young boy. very nice family and friendly. I arrived at the restaurant quite hungry at noon. I was seated and ordered non alcoholic beverage as I was driving and I like to think I'm smart, savvy and cautiously safe at all times. I have eyes out the back of my head ok? Anyway, after ordering my meal from the menu Camarones Empanidos which was recommended to me by a local girl working at a nearby restaurant in Merida. She of course was quite sweet and knowledgeable about her home town. I thought of her the entire time I enjoyed the shrimp which was quite good, but one must add on salad and in my case papas frites, as I was quite over the top hungry. I drive during daylight only and made way for Celestun quite early only to be delayed by the restaurants hours, really not a super big problem. My complaint is really how suspiciously the water, the other wait folk mainly men treated my presence. I said I wanted to be seated outside to eat at first, but was denied this treat only to view a busload of Mexicans from elsewhere treated to food and drink on the beach. Maybe they made arrangements in advance, but the waiter informed me that only drinks of the alcoholic type were allowed to customers on the beach. I paid for my brunch and walked the beach for a few hours in great anticipation for a mid day snack and I chose the house ceviche which was very delicious along with a tecate then a special drink of the house. Generally, the staff was quite cold and unfriendly as I read in other reviews. Maybe its because of being an American. I dont know for sure. I certainly couldn't be viewed as. woman of the night, although no one really would guess my age as I look 20 years or more younger. It seemed to me they feared I could not pay or might escape from payment somehow. And, trying my best to use my polite Espanol, did nothing to lighten them up. So, I can only intuitively tell you if you are a woman alone and travel to this little village, you might be treated in the same manner by restaurant waiters/waitresses. For me this was very disappointing as I so much enjoy little beach towns after many years of experience starting in 1972 San Carlos, Sonora MX as a college student. There wasn't a resort there as there is today. But the locals invited my girlfriends and I to a Sunday Fiesta and treated with enormous respect. I'll never forget it. I'd like to hear from other customers of this establishment if they felt the same resentment and coldness I viewed during my stay eating 2 meals to the tune of $1200 pesos. I tipped well and seemed to confuse both waiters. LOL. The food was quite good but the service of smiles and helpfulness were completely lacking. They get no stars from me for that. The food gets 4 stars. Bon Provecho!More

In a beach town with few good food options, this is a gift from Poseidon. Fresh seafood and shrimp that will make you salivate in your nostalgic moments. Nice views, helpful waiters. It's either this or something cooked on a grill attached to a motorcycle....Don't try to figure out what time it's open.More

Highly recommended. Nice place for late lunch / early dinner. Tables are mostly on the beach. Plan 2 to 3 hours to enjoy the beautiful view, while sitting under palms.
