We really needed a rest stop and coffee for our onward journey around the Snaefellsnes peninsula and stumbled across Cafe Emil due to it's location next to the main road.
When we entered, the room was empty, so we had our choice of comfy places...to sit. There was a neat area where you could grab a ukulele for a play (I didn't, too shy) and an interesting little fishing museum round the back. The welcome from the lady behind the counter was really warm and the coffee was great (free refills for the regular coffee) and recommended the local "happy marriage" cake to me, which was delicious.
All in all, we had a lovely little coffee stop, warm and well fed for the rest of our morning.More
This is a great place to start any visit to Grundarfjorour as it is not only a lovey cafe but it also serves as the Tourist Information Centre. The map you collect is useful and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
We visited on good Friday and they were about to close.
The staff stayed on to cook us lovely fish soup and talked to us about they area.
When we arrived the weather was terrible and they let us hang out for an extra hour...while the rain cleared.
Lovely people, lovely food.More
I recently visited Cafe Emil with my travellers from Singapore. They have been on special Vegan food but small place as Cafe Emil made it for them over all expectations. It reminds us very much on another cafe in Arnarstapi because of one simple reason....In both places is still spirit of personal service, smiling stuff, so we didn’t feel negative in all time we spend there. Since I running tour operation company in Reykjavik, is one absolutely sure. This place, Cafe Emil and another one in Arnarstapi will become my must stop on Snæfellsness day tours. Thank you to not be official, thank you to be as you are.More
Great stop, when it happens to be open! The coffee was very good, and their waffles were an excellent brunch find. Honestly not much else was available in this little town. Unfortunately the second day we tried to go they were closed at 11, even...when their door said they opened at 10 that day.More
