Exactly what we were looking for in a local German bar. Cozy, old world charm. Great German beer on tap. Very friendly and accommodating staff even though limited English. We only had the Käsespätzle…. It was so good! If you’re docking here on your river cruise this is a very short walk from the boat. Skip lunch on the boat and have some great local food and German draft!

It was a cold night returning from France and Trip Advisor led us here. Cozy atmosphere, polite staff, delicious dishes with generous portions and very good prices. I would definitely recommend it as a bar-restaurant.

Stopped here for a drink and a snack when we visited Breisach as part of our river cruise. Met a friendly local. Nice service.

After a very long drive and checking into a local hotel, we took the short stroll into the centre of town to find somewhere to eat. By chance we chose this venue and so glad we did. Great food, great atmosphere with friendly staff and locals and my first taste of Zwick’l kellerbier. Fantastic beer!

We entered this place out of coincidence on a rainy day. We didn't feel too hungry but since we were there, we decided to give it a go. I had an excellent falafel dish ( tomato and cucumbers salad with yogurt dressing, cous cous and rice on the side). The portion was pretty big and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had pork with spätzle ( German pasta) with salad and he absolutely loved it. The service was quick and very friendly. The prices were just right for the quality.

After a long drive, we arrived late in the evening at Breisach and looked for a place on TripAdvisor to have a quick dinner. At first sight, the gasthaus looked small and crowdy - so not the best combination with a baby and small dog - but we were immediately sold to the warm smile of the gastfrau and felt very welcome. She gently asked a young group to move to the bar and clear the table for us. We were served very fast, dinner was excellent (we had the rumsteak and sausage-salad with garlic patatoes) and she always had eye for the small details: water for the dog, if we needed WiFi access, saw when our glass was empty,... Really a great experience, I can only recommend!

We were strolling in a rather cold day, trying to avoid too much touristic restaurants. Although Humpen is exactly in the pedestrian zone, it looked not so touristic, and it was we were looking for. It looks like a pub, wooden counter, wooden tables, mid-dark light. We had two flammenkuchen which tasted good. Very kind service. Nothing to complain. In case we are in Breisach again, we surely could take into consideration to come here again

I have been working in Breisach for some months now and have tried quite a few restaurants during that time. But every week I return to Humpen. It is a typical German rustic style bar, which is a style I very much like. The typical German dishes are on the menu but the owners have added some of their own ethnic flavours which make for some really tasty options. My strong recommendations are the Humpen Salat or the Grara Gavani. If you don't enjoy these, you are not of this world and you can ask me for your money back. I will of course refuse your request just that we are clear from a legal perspective. Apart from the food, there is the atmosphere. The manager and staff are very friendly, there's a good few regulars, very regular in fact and all in all it's become a home from home. The patrons have been know to shout out my name as I enter, Cheers ( popular Boston bar based sitcom) style. Ok that last statement is not quite true but I do get the occasional acknowledging nod which is nice too. If you want to see the latest bundesliga or champions league games, you're guaranteed they are on. The music selection is also very interesting and often good and will have you Shazamming the night away if you didn't live in Germany for any length of time and are unused to the strange musical tastes of Germans. I highly recommend this establishment and if you do venture in, don't forget to mention it was recommended by some Irish guy.
